I've got a 1986 dodge w250 with the 5.9 360. Last year I had put a new intake on it along with new intake gaskets and headgaskets. I've been trying to get it to run right recently because I haven't driven it much since I did everything to it. But I was taking it down the road today and wouldn't let it rev passed what felt like 3,000 rpm. Then it lost all spark because it got flooded so bad. Popped the hood and saw unburnt fuel boiling out of that hole on the cylinder head where the head and intake meet. Why would this be happening?d5e356cfe1cfb852c99bc94bfe126455.jpgf6ee1c8f25c10da06f1e4947f1d2e14a.jpg

I also just put and Edelbrock 38 gph electric fuel pump in it. Could it be putting too much fuel in it?

If i were you, i would check what your fuel pressure ( PSI ), should be for that year & engine

Then put a fuel pressure gauge inline

Another thing to check, Dodge used to have a RETURN line on some vehicles, it went in between the fuel filter & carburetor
Did most vehicles like yours have a return line ?

Sounds like your catalytic converters are clogged , and need to be replaced or whatever. Clogged cats will not let it exhale. Also check fuel pressure, however I would think it would flood just about as soon as you fired it up if it was to much pressure. It’s your cats, l bet.

if you motor is the original 86 360, it came with a mechanical pump. and if your new electric pump is putting out a constant 38 gph, you're definitely getting way too much fuel into your carb. the original mechanical pump likely put out around 25 gph at max RPM. at idle or low RPM, since the pump runs off the cam, it would be even lower gph.

you need a fuel pressure regulator if you're going to keep the electric pump. and like @GTyankee said, get a fuel pressure gauge as well to dial it all in. Or just go back to a mechanical pump, usually runs $14-20.

also, if you've been drowning your motor for a while now, I'd check the oil, might be full of fuel.
