So my son traded his 2018 2500 6.4 with 95,000 miles a couple weeks ago for a 2021 Night edition 2500 Cummins. He hasn't towed with it yet other than backing his camper up in his driveway. He didn't hook up the WDH as he was just backing it up a few feet but said it dropped the rear about 1" more than it dropped his old one. His old one had the Off-Road package but don't think that would matter. But he said his EVIC is reading about 15 MPG so far. Probably has about 500 miles on it so far. But so far overall he likes it

Forgot to mention...dealer gave him free lifetime oil changes and free lifetime annual inspections. It also didn't come with the engine block heater. Apparently all Cummins have the heater installed but the cord is optional. His didn't have the cord but he got the dealer to agree to order the cord and install it. Shouldn't need it here in western PA but if he ends up back in North Dakota or Minnesota he might be glad he has it. They haven't installed it yet but they said the cord alone was $118

Wow, free oil changes with the Cummins! At my local Dealer, it was $167 a couple years ago. I buy Rotella T4 at either Sam's or Tractor Supply and my Fleet Guard filters from Amazon. I can change it myself for around $53 +/-.

The Dealer most likely will want to do both of the fuel filters. I've read where some Dealers charge as much as $450 to do both. You can usually find them as a combo online for around $100 to $115 but you have to look around. Mopar and Fleet Guard are the same thing.

Edit: A Fleet Guard Block Heater Cord is $16.12. Be careful dealing with them.

I’m sure they’ll find stuff for him to pay for while he is getting those “free” oil changes. That’s a nice looking truck!

yeah i'm sure you are right about the 'add-ons' for the free oil changes. i was wondering if that may have been for the gasoline vehicles and the salesman screwed up and told him it was for his too. not sure if he got that in writing though.

and yeah, the salesman looked up the cord and found one for $22 so he figured it wouldn't be too much...lol. parts guy told him $122...lol

I'm jealous of the free oil changes. That's a pretty sweet deal.

I have a friend who bought a Honda Accord in 2005 and he got free changes for life. He now has almost 600K miles on it!!

His mileage will get better as the engine loosens up a little.

I have heard that dealers are getting at, or over MSRP! How did your son do on that?

They wouldn't budge off of sticker. It stickered at $67,*** and that was the price. And I feel they screwed him on his trade. He had a 2018 2500 6.4 4.10's. It is listed as an SLT but has the Outdoorsman and Off-Road packages with full console, touch screen nav, basically everything except Ram box, leather, heated seats and sunroof. He had 95,000 miles on it. They claimed because it had a Carfax accident report and it was originally from Canada that they would have a hard time selling it. I called B.S. but they still wouldn't budge. They gave him $29,000 for his. Identical trucks with a little less miles are advertised for about $48,000 right now. The Carfax was because he was rear ended. Bent his hitch and bumper and pushed the bumper into the bed corners. We showed them the pics of the damage and they said it didn't matter.

As far as mileage, he isn't really worried about that. He hasn't paid for his own fuel in 3 years now anyway...lol

So here is his old one. Dealer gave him $29,000 and wouldn't budge. They said because it had a Carfax accident report and was originally aCanadian truck they would have a hard time selling it. He paid $40,000 for it with 6000 miles on it. The crash damage was from being rear ended. Had to replace the bumper, hitch, and repair dents in the bed corners where the bumper hit it. About $3000 damage.

^ A 95k mile SLT gas for $49K! If that sells for that the market truly is insane.

^^^ For sure. Bottom line, it doesn't matter what they ask as long as he is happy with the deal. Traded my wife's 2015 durango with 116k on it. We got 19k for it. It had been crashed before with a bunch of front end damage, so we were happy we got that out of it. They are asking 25k and some change for it.

Yeah I showed him and he said he was happy with his new truck. Besides, he really didn't pay anything for his old one anyway. His company was giving his $1100/month for truck usage since he used it for work. He just started a new job about a month ago and his new company gives him $500/month but he only drives it from his house to the job site 15 miles away every day. There may be instances in the future where he has to drive further but likely nothing like he was. And both companies have been paying for fuel so he hasn't paid for any fuel in 2 years.

But it is frustrating when the dealer says they can't budge. I even told the sales guy that the Canadian thing shouldn't matter cause it has been all converted and with 95,000 miles then who cares at that point. But the truck was great. It had never been back to any dealer the whole time he owned it. Oil changes were all done at a Valvoline quick change. Only issue was his AC wasn't blowing real cold so the mechanic at their site fixed a leaking o-ring and it was fine after that.

Exactly why trading in is ridiculous. They paid him 29 and will sell for 49. That is sick and horrible.

Yep. But no way will they get $49,000. It was only about $54,000 new and now has 95,000 miles on it. It's clean but still. They may get $40,000 so will still make a chunk
