My understanding is torsion key are clocked differently to keep the softer ride while getting the 2-3 inch lift i need. Am i wrong to think that? I don't mind spending the 100 bucks if I get to keep the ride comfort.
Thats all a marketing ploy to get you to buy their keys.
Think about it for a second. The lift comes from preloading the torsion bar, the more preload the higher the truck will sit. Preload comes in the form of twisting the torsion bar to offset the weight applied to it (the truck).
It requires the same preload to raise the truck regardless of how the key is indexed. Your ride will suffer either way you do it, the end result is the same. Wether you buy keys that are indexed or crank the bolt on the stock keys, your ride will be stiffer and you will feel bumps more.
I have cranked several vehicles over the years and even installed a set of indexed keys and the ride was identical because of physics. (those keys were removed as fast as they went in and sold)
Your torsion bar is your spring and it's not going to magically change spring rates because you used a different key to twist the bar. Twisting it 15 degrees (preload) with a factory torsion key or twisting it the same 15 degrees with an aftermarket key, you're still twisting it the same 15 degrees and will still have the same spring rate.
Bottom line, if you apply more preload to the torsion bar it will in effect raise the spring rate, stiffen your ride and raise the truck. How you go about applying the preload...it doent matter, the torsion key is stationary and plays no role in how the torsion bar functions other than the amount of preload applied or removed initially.
What you can do to improve the ride is to buy a set of quality performance shocks that are 2 inches longer to accomodate the lift and to tame the ride a little.
Keep in mind if you do buy the torsion keys you will be either spending another $150 on a tool to unload/preload the torsion bars to remove/install the keys or paying a shop to do the work.
I would recommend that you crank your stock keys to see how you like it. If the ride is up to par for you I would then buy a set of good shocks to go along with the new found ride height. If you go about 2" or so the ride will be stiffer, but IMO in a good way, it will ride more like a truck. New shocks will make a big difference too.
Good luck and if any of this doesnt make sense let me know and ill try to do a better job of explaining it.
