Have a 2017 with the pentastar, I am noticing lately that the exhaust seems to be getting louder; the best words I can come up with to describe it are droning, raspy, or resonating. It definetely wasn’t this loud when I got it. Before I kill a day going to the dealer with it, wondering if anyone else has had similar. It’s okay when cruising but does it while accelerating, even gently. Only 14,000km or about 10,000 miles on it.

Mine seems a little louder at 12k, but I like it, almost sounds like a real engine.. :happy175:

Mine too! I'm at ~29K miles with my 2017 Ram 1500 express QC 4x4, pentastar. Bought it with 12K miles on it. Exhaust system is spotless.

My brother's new 2019 Ram classic with the pentastar is more quiet.

I’d guess it’s just the way your exhaust has broken in. In my experience they reach their loudest between 5-10k miles. You are also going to get more rasp and a louder exhaust under acceleration when it is really cold out. My Charger 392 has been shaking the parking garage at work since the temps plummeted last week.

Yeah, on mine it’s just an annoying loud droning, not a performance kind of noise.

I’ll wait until it warms up in spring and see how it is, I didn’t notice it last winter when it was new.

I don't yet have enough miles on my truck to consider the exhaust broken in, but I have noticed recently as temps have fallen to below zero that it seems to have more of a growl or rumble. not something I expected from the V6 nor did I ever realize temp would have an impact.

Yes the temp has some to do with it but mainly it's just the cycling of the exhaust itself. Hot/cold, hot/cold etc. It changes the molecular structure of the metal through expansion and contraction. Sounds to me like you might have had a weld break loose in the muffler, if it's that loud and annoying. Most likely nothing you can see on the outside but the muffler has a lot of welds and thin metal inside that can crack. Do too the extreme heat, allowing the metal to rattle and flex. Most of the time you will hear this under acceleration when there is a lot of vibration and exhaust pressure. If it's still under warranty take it in an tell them you want a new muffler and see if that doesn't fix your problem. All mufflers will do it to some extent but that doesn't mean you didn't get one that fell through the quality control cranks. If it was an exhaust leak it would have a different sound entirely.

Thanks, think I’ll take it in. I’ve driven three other various vehicles in the past couple weeks in the cold temps, none have loud, droning exhausts

As far as I can tell, my 2 door '14 Wrangler with the 6 speed manual, 3.73 rear end sounds exactly as it did in Oct of '13, when it was new.

Great engine btw.
