Dad is wanting to trade is Silverado for a Ram with a V6 but was asking what kind of mileage they get. He is going to look at a 2018 Ram 4x4 Big quad cab big horn.

I told him they do as well as the Chevy v6 to expect mid 20s but I didn't know for sure. Dad drives really really easy and slow, always wants to get the best MPG. So If you you drive one of those easy; what kind of MPG do you see?

Easily 20s. That's coming from CC 4x4 in WV hills. I drive 30 miles one way to work and was averaging around 22-23mpg.

Since adding 3" lift with new wheels and 305/55 (still stock 33" height) tires im averaging 17-18mpg.

2018 Bighorn CC 3:55 with 16k miles. I typically drive 40 miles a day split between interstate and in town driving and usually average right around 18-19. About 22-24 if interstate for longer duration at about 65-70 mph

Well, that all good. Dad drives slow and easy so he should see mid 20s easy. He is at the dealership now looking at the truck.
2018 BigHorn 4x4 27K miles for $23K. It seems like the market for used trucks is pretty soft now. Prices are decently low.
That is what I paid for my '14 Ram Express 4 years ago with 48K miles on it. But low mileage used trucks were in short supply and high demand then.

That may be right.

I paid $25k for my 2017 Big Horn CC with 21k miles February 2019. You said he was looking at a QC not CC right?

So same age truck now, 6k more miles and Quad for $2k less. I bet he could fuss em down more.

When I first got it, I averaged 25mpg unladen, but I had stock everything on it and drove a bit light-footed.

Couple years later come June, pulled off the under-bumper air-dam, put on aggressive-tread Falken Wildpeak AT/3 tires, hung a somewhat heavy grille guard up front... I still get like 21-22mpg or so if I'm gentle with it.

Now loaded down? Payload is 1700 lbs on my particular config, I've met and flirted with exceeding GVWR a few times, and mpg drops to like 12-13mpg or so on the flats, and, err, dont-ask (maybe 8-10mpg?) in the hills? Never really calculated it out since I was too busy trying to get my goodies home. :)

Edit: Forgot to add some important data...

38k on the odometer, 3.21 gear ratio, 4x4, and it's a QuadCab that has a curb weight of 5100 lbs.

Also, I live in the sticks, which means that my driveway empties out onto a state highway, so it's almost all highway miles.

Well, he got home with it he is thrilled. Mostly loaded; all the goodies he wanted. The average MPG it was showing was around 14 MPG. I told him that is because it has been driven on short test drives at the dealership. You can image those were was foot to the floor drives. I drove a bit this evening light accelerating and running 55 in the country. The average mileage climbed to 16 MPG on a short easy drive. Yeah, I expect him to get pretty good mileage.

My RAM 1500 4.7L (discontinued V8) gets 20 city and 24 highway, i can get 500-600 miles out of a full 26 gallon tank.

You can reset the mpg counter... might want to do that to get a more accurate reading with just his driving and driving style.

^As mentioned Reset the MPG counter !. When I picked up my 2015 with 21 k on the clock it was reading like 16/17 MPG
I Have a Quad Cab 4x4 SLT w/3:21 gears and my average is 19/21 MPG . I am rural and light footed, On Hwy at 70/75 MPH I may see 21/22 MPG, Best I saw was 23.4
My sticker rated my RAM at 23 MPG so I am close and for a Full size 4x4 happy with the MPG. Also being a V6 insurance is a little lower :)
Also tell you dad congrats and if he comes on the forum Look into the Senior thread

Ole Pop is 85; not the forum reading type. ;)

Yeah I'll mess with it and get the counter reset. Boy driving it around yesterday just showed me how beat my '14 is with 100K miles on it now.
I need to invest in shocks on all 4 corners.

To me, truck owner's fuel economy claims can be just that. A claim. A co-worker of mine has a brand new Silverado V8 with an 8spd AT, start/stop technology, etc. He was telling me the other day that his dash is telling him he's getting ~27mpg. This is a snapshot from one particular trip. I just said 'wow that's awesome'!.

I've seen some pretty extraordinary fuel economy claims on Hemi 8spds and Pentastar powered Rams as well.

To me, all that matters is what I average out of a whole tank of gas. That's the only meaningful data point.

I would say with a Pentastar powered Ram, during warm weather, you could easily expect ~21-23mpg out of a whole tank of fuel with daily driving conditions. You won't touch that with a Hemi and typical daily driver miles. Cold weather takes a good 10% away from you.

I have the same color in 2020 with Hemi. ( might be a hair darker hard to tell)
I bought the hemi because I dive 3500 miles a year on average for work.
I figured the V6 would get 2 miles to the gallon better ( not an issue for me but understand it could be for others)
The V6 seems to be pretty decent HP so its a good compromise.
Being close to work and towing a heavy boat now and then plus a dual wheel enclosed toy hauler I wanted the towing power.
think I would have been happy with the V6 good luck to your pop
