Want to ad a bigger overhead console

I have a standard overhead console in my 2008 Ram Quad cab, would like to add the one that has a sunglass holder. The mount for the original one is smaller. I know the headliner must be cut out for the extra pocket of the glasses holder. Has anyone done this without getting a new mount just using whats there?

I would imagine, as long as all the wiring is the same, shouldn't be adding any electrical components, if you could find one in a salvage yard you could take the bracket and the console and it wouldn't be too bad of a swap. Granted if there are any issues with the line up of the original bracket to the larger bracket that might be a problem. But then again I doubt they would have changed that much a out the mounting locations since I would think the large majority of the trucks came with some sort of overhead console, it was just a matter of what bracket to attach per the build sheet.

Good luck boss. This sounds like something i might consider a bit later for my 07 too.

I looked at it closer and the front where it snaps in is different from the original one. Maybe like you said if I can get the proper bracket for it to fit. The console I bought was from a 2005, apparently they did change the mounts on the 6-8 years.

Fair enough, it's kinda weird, 06 to 08 (as far as I know) was just a face-lift it's crazy they made such small changes to interior pieces... well let me know what else you find out, I'm going to look into it some more as well.

A picture of yours would help tremendously; wondering if you have a sunroof. I did this swap in a 2003 about 12 yrs ago, while I did have to cut the headliner I was able to use the factory mount that is glued to the roof.

I have to post a picture. I do not have a sunroof. I may just be able to modify the front mount tabs and cut out for the longer housing at the sunglass holder. I will post pictures then showing the difference between the two of them.

Here is what I’m working with. The original smaller overhead console and the larger one I want to add. The front mount pins are recessed further than the original. I think I’m going to trim the front case of the larger one so the pins are out like the original one. I’ll let you know how I make out.

Ok so I trimmed the front plastic down so the tabs are about the same height as the original smaller console and it fit. I then notched the headliner so the sunglass cavity would fit in it. I also had to drill two holes in the console to match the original so I could put screws in to hold the rear of it up to the ceiling,the holes were drilled under the plastic light area, I also put the original display in the console as the one in the 05 would not work properly.
