For the last couple of years there has been a shortage of these large winches and Warn has not made a run. There are maybe 5 I know of in all of Canada. They were supposed to make a bunch in Dec or January. Does anyone know if they are now available. I have emailed Warn and asked the same question and will post their reply when it shows up.

Do you have a 16k? Or could you run a 12k and snatch block? Just wondering I’m looking really hard at the harbor freight badlands 12k has great reviews more than warren and smitty built.

I am running a 17,500 pound Smittybilt. Great pulling winch but it doesn't free spool. You have to power it out every time. That is a pain in the a*z when you are winching a moose 1500 feet up out of a gully with a synthetic extension cable, or when doing multiple pulls. It is hard on battery juice and heats the winch for no good reason.

With respect to a 12,000 pound winch, I don't want to have to snatch block all the time and given the bigger pulling winches are very little more I see no point in running a smaller winch.

I may have to do some research on the badlands winch. Have started to see them showing up in a lot more places.

Yeah Matt’s recovery runs them and I can’t find any winch with that many reviews regardless of brand and good ones

Was looking, biggest they make is a 12,000. Looking at Sherpa as they have an option for 150 foot of cable or rope on their 17,000. That is double anyone else's.

Got this back from Warn yesterday:

Hi, Dean

I know lead times are getting better. It looks like there should be several shipped out to distributors in March. We continue to build winches and fill oldest backorders first.

Thank you, Shawn

Well, the new Warn 16,500 Synthetic TIs winches are now available up here in Canada. Mine goes on this coming week. Prices are not up as much as I thought they would be. They are however $3,900, which is 4 times the price of the Smittybuilt but at least the Warn will free spooll properly. Even after a complete clean and replace with synthetic grease in the Smittybuilt, two good size guys can't pull the cable out in free spool. That is a major pain in the butt for cases where you are doing multiple pulls. The synthetic line will also be much easier to work with than the heavy and thick steel cable on the existing winch.

Nice, that sounds like a great improvement! Freespooling is a must imo. What sort of bumper or winch mount are you using?

Since you have the hemi you could have hid it in the bumper with the power wagon winch mount. However, im sure those are ridiculously priced.

No free spool…that’s ridiculous!

I thought about the Powerwagon type mount but hidden winches are not a great idea with mud, beaver crossings etc. I want ths winch up where I can get at it easy and also respool it evenly without issues.
