There are countless threads and incidents where a dealer will not honor a warranty item because the owner has modified the vehicle.

Let's ignore the legality of this for now and just focus on the owner.

What I question is why on Earth would anyone knowingly put themselves in that situation or set themselves up for a significant battle and then endlessly ***** and whine about it?

My philosophy has always been to NEVER hand your enemy (the dealer/factory) ammo. I love my RAM and keep it (as I have always done with new vehicles) stock, and enjoy it throughout the warranty period. After that, I can do whatever I want and it's all on me.

Opinions?

Cheers

Totally agree. At the price of my vehicle I won't give the dealer rope to hang me. Especially outside of the US as I am where we have no Magnusson law to protect us.

Minor lift/level kit is not a problem. Engine mods, tranny mods, tunes, deleting cats etc would be problematic.

The problem is the fact that not all dealers seem to play the same game.

Some will look past mods, some (most?) will look FOR mods so they can avoid warranty coverage.

I agree which makes it even more important to think before you do anything. Get a decision IN WRITING from the dealer or corporate beforehand. Not all dealers play and corporate is there to watch the bottom line and couldn't care less about the bottom of your pocket.

I think its not a lot different than how some companies "get" the idea of great customer service and others don't. The smart dealers realize going above & beyond will earn them a customers business in the future and give them an edge over their competitors. I've always said if you can buy x brand from 10 different places and price is taken out of the equation, what will make go back to one place again & again. SERVICE! It's all about service these days in almost everything! (Except Amazon & Walmart. Price rules)

The first sentence is among the reasons why never buy extended warranties. I have had to help family members with the crud that more often than not comes up with a denial to warranty-service the issue. And as said here, add-ons just increase the chances to not get service covered. With basic warranty, the additional items can be a reason to deny, depending on what it is. That being said, I do upgrades but always try to keep them factory so that I don't have to worry. But I will also say that I am glad there are people who don't worry about this, because there are some fantastic looking trucks out there. If I had a full shop with welding and cutting tools I would probably do a lot more.
