Great article.... thanks for posting.

I'm the "old guy" that runs 100% stock. Honestly, between the wife, kids and a company to run I just don't have time to mess with my ride anymore so warranties are great for me. Guys that want to modify need to accept the reality. Technology has largely caught with you can you have to pay to play. It's your truck and you can do what you want with it. Just don't expect the manufacturer to play along with you.

Very good article. There are just some people that think that it's ok to do what they want, then when things break and they think it'd under warranty, the dealer can refuse at any time.

It's one thing if your car is having computer power issue, but all you did was put in a lift. The electrical issue has no play with the lift.

But if you put in a tuner, or made any changes to the wiring to the car, your screwed. People with tuners think they can do anything...that computer can tell if it was tampered now.

I've wanted a tuner since I got my truck, but I'm not willing to risk the warranty for it. Engines and transmissions are expensive. Only another 45,000 miles to go.

It's funny how much discretion the dealership has. I have 2 dealerships close to me, one is huge, has experienced techs and advisors..and the other one is smaller and doesn't even service HDs, all their techs are 19-20 year olds that are apprentices from local auto schools.

I had a torn CV boot. The small dealer blamed it on the levelling kit and said..in not so many words..that levels are satan's creations. The larger dealer, a little further up but worth the drive was along the lines of, "yes, this part # is covered under warranty. Is the front lifted? looks sweet"

... lol

^^^ Exactly.

Warranty coverage vs mods is a petty gray area, and varies dramatically by dealer.
My local dealer is "happy" to bend the rules a little for the sake of customer satisfaction, simply because things like Yelp exist! :)

must be my age as 395hp in a rcsb is plenty so no mods that way in my future. I have enough problems getting in and out of the current factory 4x4 height so no mods in the up/down area. I guess I am one of the few who is more than happy (a few visual/handy type mods) with how this Hemi 4X4 rolled off the factory floor.

In my area almost all of the Jeep/Ram dealerships are mod friendly - unless it is obvious your mod caused the failure they don't even question a warranty claim
