Let's get the new section broken in...

I recently purchased a 2015 6.4 2500, trading in my ol' 2006 2500 cummins. I tow a 37' bumper pull camper weighing 9,500 pounds loaded, and tag along a jet ski on occasion... Looking forward to seeing how the 6.4 handles the load...

What's everyone else pull and what are your thoughts?

I tow a 6000# vaccum trailer weekly and 16,000# gooseneck monthly, no problems.

Normally our 32' bumper pull TT, but did volunteer to pull coworkers 45' park model. That was a bit rough - 5mpg then.

All kinds of stuff....

- 7000# NASH travel trailer
- 3 horse slant Logan (steel) horse trailer (7500# loaded up, ready to ride)
- 2 place snowmachine trailer with sleds (winter)
- Polaris Ranger on the 2 place sled trailer (warm months)

The Polaris Ranger and trailer pulls the hardest due to all the air drag. Keeping the speeds below 65 the best I can get pulling is 10 and that is with the lighter loads. A B&W gooseneck hitch is on the list when spring comes so I can hook into a bigger horse trailer. This truck pulls just about as good as my old 2001 5.9L CTD did. Definitely is more stable under loads with the boxed frame than the 2nd gen truck.

What kind of mileage are you guys seeing while pulling campers? Kinda curious as to what I will be seeing... I was only getting 9 out of my cummins, loaded to the gills or empty...

What kind of mileage are you seeing while towing the camper Mowin? Like I said, I traded a cummins in for this new 6.4 knowing that I only drive a mile or so to work every day... I mainly tow my camper but have some utility trailers for hauling wood splitting equipment and wood itself... Curious to see how you guys with the 14's feel after actually towing with them!

Pulling my TT I'll get 8 to 9 keeping speeds at 65 or less. If there is cross or headwinds, expect less. Drag has more affect on my mileage than trailer weight. The 6.4 is no CTD....you'll need to 'drive it' more using the gear selector or Tow/haul. Unless your going downhill, you won't see 6th gear. In Tow haul mode, 6th gear is locked out, it'll only go as high as 5th. This is why I sometimes just keep it out of tow/haul and select my top gear. On a downhill run I can catch 6th and help milk the mpg. Like I said, you'll have to 'drive it' more than the CTD. I've tried both ways, I've just found my truck tends to stay in 4th gear longer if its in tow haul. I came from a 2013 CTD that I just wasn't getting along with. MPG was 10.5 pulling my 2 place snowmachine trailer in the winter. Winter blend just killed the mileage in the CTD that I had. I get 9-10 with the 6.4 pulling the same trailer. Sounds like you use your truck similar to me. My daily trips to work are short and I'm usually not pulling more than 50 miles in one direction. This 6.4 fits my needs pretty good.

I have seen as low as 7.24(pulling my travel trailer over windy passes), and as high 11.8(120 mile round trip, fairly flat, no wind, and 60 mph speed limit). Overall, I would call it a solid 10mpg.

I've got 3:73 gears, and towing the tt I get 7-8 mpg's. My tt is 41' overall, and tips the scales at just under 11k with no propane, battery or gear. It only gets towed twice a yr, as we're on a seasonal site. The stepbrat is in college, and in two yrs we plan on trading the camper for a smaller one. I've also towed a 12k mini, and was very impressed with how the truck preformed. It definitely doesn't have the snot of my diesels, but a very capable rig.

Awesome to hear! I have a feeling Ram hit a home run for the camping guys... these trucks seem to be geared perfectly towards the seasonal heavy towing and mostly riding around empty...

I loved my diesel but just couldn't pull myself to buy another with all the emissions bs they are putting on the truck and then all the lubricants they are refining out of the fuel itself now...

Money wasn't even a factor in our decision as we could have afforded to buy the same truck with a cummins but opted out... heck, we did a delete on a 2012 cummins of my dad's and we sold just the used filters for $1000 for the scrap metal... if there is that much in just scrap imagine how much it cost to design it, fab it and install it...

Not worried about R&D, can you imagine if you had to replace them....:emotions122:

My wife found my savings account with nearly $10,000 in it. She asked what I was saving for and I told her I was just waiting for the transmission and injectors to drop out of my previous truck. She was like "you need a new truck, and that's your down payment..."

Hard to argue with that logic!

Going by my EVIC, I get about 9.5mpg towing our 32' TT that weighs in around 6600lbs. But I drive a wee bit fast towing so that probably doesn't help either. Within the speed limit, but on the higher side.
