I have a 2012 ram sport 1500, 3:55 gears, 6 sp auto, 4x4 crew cab, 5.7 hemi, HD engine cooler, HD tranny cooler, Short box, wdh and sway bars. Truck manual says can tow 8600 lbs, but also says can tow 10,450 lbs when properly equipped. What does this mean and am I properly equipped to tow 10,450. Is this for just a tow trailer or 5th wheel also. Thks

Essentially it refers to the 2012 Options for the 1500 like the Motors (3.7 vs 4.7 vs 5.7, etc), the Gearing (3.21 vs 3.55 vs 3.92) for that year, transmission (65RFE A6 vs 42RLE A4), 4x2 vs 4x4, and the trim Level options on the truck. Many of the luxury options often add weight which in most cases will take away from the max towing weight that you can perform. You and I have similarly optioned 2012 Crew Cabs with 6sp and 4x4 with the 5.7 in our trucks, but in order reach that 10K lb towing option we would definitely need the 3.92 gears mated to our 6 speed transmissions.
