If it has 4 auto then it's a clutch style. They do seem to work better though. That may just be how they programmed it. Don't know if it's more durable or not. I don't think the 6.2 is any worse on fuel than the hemi. Especially now paired with the 10spd.

Ford's 4auto transfer case will also lock. In 4auto it uses clutches like the others but it mechanically locks in 4hi/4lo. I think they developed it for the Raptor, but it's in the Tremor as well. I don't know about other trim levels.

The 6.2 Chevys get slightly worse milage than the 5.7 Rams, at least from the sticker. Ram has the optional bigger tank, though, and I'm more concerned about range than MPG. I love the 6.2L in my car and don't mind it takes premium fuel, but for road trips I like to have 500-ish miles of range before needing to fuel for the flexibility of picking when/where I do so.

the two buddies of mine that have had the 6.2 say it sucks gas but has plenty power. my experience with my 1500 ram 4x4 ccsb 5.7 and 3.92 gears is that I got 20 or more on the highway at normal cruise of 75 or so. I got 8.5-10 towing my 6000# travel trailer at 68-69. 33 gal tank is a must. I only ever used regular grade gas

My wife is calling. I am only on page 3! So without reading the rest: If he is good with "buying" your used truck, Start looking for a used one that will fit his needs, as your truck already fits yours and keep it! I wanted what most people do not, 1500 Reg cab, long box,5.7 RWD. ( my dad plowed with a one leg 68 D200 Camper special, 383 2bbl, 4 Spd. manual). Never found a need for a 4WD. even in upstate NY. And the going price was ( exactly 1 year ago) $30k - 33K with those having 70,000 - 90,000 plus miles. I started my online looking ( i spent 4-5 months looking, and found what I wanted (with extra stuff for $ 22,500 that had less than 58,000 miles. I called on Friday asked if it was still available, yes was the answer, so I told them I would be there next day (sat.) by 3PM with cash. If it looked in person like it looked on line I would take it. Got on My Victory motorcycle drove the 400+ miles into West Virginia. Paid for it. They issued a temp plate, loaded the motorcycle in the back and drove home. 19 hours total time. If you look on line you get a better idea of what a good price is. It is a gamble, but as you read here even "NEW" ones are a gamble and can have issues. What I wound up with. 2016 Ram 1500, Tradesman, 5.7, 6spd.auto, 32 gallon tank, Chrome package, power & remote entry group, popular equipment group, 3.55 axle., sliding rear window, u connect 5.0 package. Nice truck does what I and Rebecca want it to do. I actually get as good or better MPG with the 3.55's (14-15.5 towing 6,000 lbs. and 20-23 at 65 -70mph). then others get with the 3.21's. At 65 mph It's only turning 1900RPM. but the RPM is high enough to get it into 6th. Do not know what the 8 spd. and 3.21's are turning or what gear they are in at that speed. But I would doubt it is in 8th. Start looking while you are thinking. The looking can only help make a decision.
