I got a 2014 ram 1500 outdoorsman crew cab and wondering if you all had suggestions for a guy who's never installed a sound system. I want good sound but I don't want it to be over complicated. Was thinking of running two dash upgraded dash speakers off of the uconnect 5.0 head unit and amping the doors and sub. Suggestions if this would work and best brands? Also where I could get a sub box to go under seats (will someone sitting on said sears damage sub?)

I've always found the simplest way to address the factory sound is via a self tuning dsp.

My opinions...ditch the uconnect. Get a Kenwood deck with the maestro kit. Eliminate the dash speakers. 6.5 components up front. Mount the tweeter in the sail panel. 6x9 coax in the back doors. 5 channel amp to power everything. Sub box you can find online. Put a grill over it to keep the seat off the sub.

Brands depend on your budget. There are a lot of guys into serious sound quality builds, but that will likely result in higher cost and install/tuning complications. I expect you will have some solid advice here very soon.

I didn't realize that was part of the uconnect. From what I read, the maestro setup keeps the factory options available.

I did this if you wanna read my post. I am running 6x9 in both doors and sound great didnt like 6.4 component. im running dual 12's under the rear seat. It could just be me, but i got about half of my stuff from mestro but i did loose alot, so i think i need to reflash it. Hopefully people have better luck than me

I used the metra harness for a pioneer dvd receiver. I lost the factory usb, ability to adjust horn and lights upon lock and song info on the evic. I set the locks and lights before taking out the 5.0 and have not regretted it. But I'm in a very basic 2 door 2wd express. Clearly there are more options in other trucks that I'm not aware of that those people will miss.

What are you missing?

I may do a write up on this since there is a lot of questions and confusion on this subject.

you can also go for an sql setup (something in between SQ and SPL) for a very good price.

The very first thing you should do is get an aftermarket Headunit. Afterall, that is going to be the source of your music. You can DSPs and such but you'll end up paying more in the long run trying to chase good sound you could achieve with a good HU. If youre getting into the car audio game, just get to it and get the aftermarket HU. PM me if you need help installing it, there's really not much to it.

Go with the Kicker direct replacement speakers. They are a simple plug and play set up, and they don't cost an arm and a leg to purchase. You'll get a ton of opinions on what you should run, so take them all with a grain of salt. You can't get much easier than plug and play with the Kickers. There are also a few other brands that are direct replacements. Send Graygoose a message and get his opinion. He works for Kicker and can get you the part numbers for what you need.
