I'm running 93. Mine runs fine on 89, no noises but every once in a while right off of idle like at a stop light I can hear what sounds almost like a grunt when running 89, it's not preignition ping, I'm thinking it's pre hearable preignition and the knock sensors are picking it up. Don't get the grunt with 93.

The only fuel I can buy in my area is regular, I run 89 when I go on roadtrips south where I can buy it. The mileage is better on 89 but with the extra cost (57cents more per gallon) I'm not sure the cost savings in the big picture. I ran all my previous rams on regular octane (again, due to availability) and never had any mechanical issues. I even towed my 5000lbs boat without any noticeable effects.

Gf's car, my Audi and my last few cars required it anyway (mostly turbo 4's), so got in the habit of it

Have found that the HD 6.4 runs fine on 89 oct. BUT, runs great on 91. I run 91 on drive trips. Only burn Chevron and Shell

They also probably recommend 10k oil changes xD

Old habits die hard, though doubt 89 would hurt

The book says 87 is fine (but may knock/ping a bit), and 89 is better. 91/92 or more is a waste of money. Using Top Tier fuel for the detergent quality is more important than octane. For the record, I don’t trust oil change gauges at all. I change mine every 4K miles religiously.

You notice any difference between that and 87 or 89 in the mileage department? We also have E15/88 here for .05 cents a gallon less than 87 and .35-.40 less than 89. I never bought any just curious.
i have been using this 88 octane for over 2 yrs now ... ran it in both Toyota trds ... no problems ... now have almost 10,000 mi between both Rams and am averaging between 18 - 19 mpg hand calculated ... you are right, 5 cents less + 3 cents less for Sheetz card, it adds up .. when the 88 is not available i use 87 octane, rarely in this part of the country

I use 87 for in town driving and 93 when towing heavy. Long road trips I use 93 and set cruise around 65/67.
It gets me a 15% increase in fuel mileage. And the Blue Mule deserves it too

I love my truck!

ran the 88 in both Toyota trds when towing our 7500# gvw TT and got 10 - 11 mpg in Pa "mountains" never had any issues ... tried 87 while towing and got the same mpg, so baseline was 88 ... everybody says the more ethanol the less mpg, but at E15 i do not see it
