What's the grumbling noise on deceleration?

If it's mds related it's not likely as people have been barking up that tree for the last 10+ years. Also, ramcares is excellent at setting up appointments, beyond that I wouldn't count on them too much. It's a nice sounding name though.

Otherwise you may just want to join those of us who go into manual mode each time we drive to eliminate the mds, a little bit inconvenient to do it every time you put the truck in gear but it's worth it to keep in v8 mode.

Yeah, I'm afraid you're right. My boss has an 06 ram 5.7 and doesn't have that problem at all. Eco mode is seamless. I've been a Ford guy all my life. Went with ram bc Ford didn't want to deal, and ram did. I love my truck, but that MDS thing is a real pain .

I wish I could bring better news, but it is what it is. At least it's somewhat easy, if not inconvenient, to shut off each time. Would be nice if you didn't have to do it each time you put it in gear though. I'm on my third mds ram so it hasn't deterred me either, and I also found that I got the most truck for my money with ram so I've stayed with them. Every truck out there has its downsides, as a person who always has aftermarket mufflers on my vehicles, mds is definitely one of them for me.

Laura that would be fine with me, however, the lead tech at the dealership told me he's done everything possible for a fix. I want Chrysler engineers to take note and work on a fix. I'm not the only person experiencing this.

I personally don't think it will ever be fixed as it's a design flaw in the balancing of the engine in MDS mode. But, maybe I will be proven wrong.

Laura,

My appointment was last Saturday. I will be going back hopefully this Saturday because a new chrome grill surround was ordered to be replaced, as a stain noticed at delivery was not removable and determined to be a defect.

What would a specialist do? I don't want to offend anyone at the dealership as they've all been very nice and helpful.

That's what mine was doing, it's an ANC problem. It is ANC feedback through the speakers in your radio. Put your hand on the lower door panel next time and you will feel the vibration coming out of the speakers (like how too much bass will make things vibrate). It's most likely a glitch in the software. That's why a lot of owners have given up and pulled the wires to the ANC mic feeds to the amp or installed the ANC mic bypass harness.

I also had the drone noise....see thread in 5th generation forum....lots of people have it. My problem was escalated to Ram Cares.....bottomline.....the dealer finally did two downloads and problem was fixed. There are TSBs on this problem. See the threads mentioned...all the info is there.

Hello RBinNC,
Essentially a case specialist is responsible for working with you and your dealer to aid in identifying a resolution and provide an additional layer of assistance. If you are interested in getting connected, feel free to reach out to us privately.

Checked that today during the vibration and nothing coming from the door panel. That's actually still.

2019 new style 5.7L. Had it a month, and keep hearing that low-pitched grumbling noise when I decelerate. Just curious what it is - turbocharger or something? Almost seems like a jake brake.

Just wanted to update everyone. I finally had enough of the noise. It was happening largely around 43mph during deceleration but also occurred at lower speeds. At times, the tone of the noise consumed the cab to where conversation wasn't possible. I took it to the dealer's service dept, and the first time the noise happened, the service manager said "whoa, that's not right".

It took discussions with several mechanics, but the fourth knew it immediately. I'm not sure if it's the same as the dampeners being discussed on this thread, but what I was told is that there are two motors attached to the frame on each side of the engine, and they are designed to operate in an opposing frequency to any vibration so as to cancel out that vibration and create a smoother/quieter ride. Mine were out of tune, thereby increasing the vibration. The mechanic said there had been a flash update for this specific issue. As was mentioned, all it took was a quick software update and it was fixed completely.

Wow! Thanks for that update.
