So I had to wait to get my truck because of that ABS recall but RAM gave dealers the OK to sell them, so I have the truck.

I need a new ball mount. I want to get an adjustable one. Just not sure how much drop to get.

The truck is a 2021 Big Horn 5.7 4x4 stock suspension.

Seems like the most common drop for adjustable ball mounts is 6in? I'm thinking I probably don't need that much since I'm at the stock ride height.

Im thinking maybe a 5in drop B&W.

Or 4in drop Bulletproof Aluminum.

Edit: Just saw this black aluminum Anderson though, but man is it expensive. Id rather have black than some shiny chrome looking thing. But I dont want painted steel.

Curt has a good video to determine proper hitch drop.

The Curt video says it all, the drop is trailer-dependent. If you have one trailer, then you don't need an adjustable but it would be a bad idea to get one because you don't know what you may be towing tomorrow.

I run a 6" drop hitch on my 1500, it will go down low enough so my utility trailer sits level but also goes up higher so my fishing boat trailer sits level. Anything longer than a 6" drop on a stock 1500, you will be dragging the road surface when entering inclines. On my 3500, for reference, I run an 8" drop and I can get the same level trailer adjustments.

I run Weight Safe hitches with the built-in scale. A bit more expensive but it is worth its weight in gold when loading my tractor on the flatbed trailer to get proper weight distribution. Since the tractor can be configured with and without implements, like a backhoe or loader, the scale comes in handy.

Anderson Rapid Hitch also has a sizing guide to add to the above listed links.

Only way to know is measure. Every trailer is different.

I needed 7" of drop to tow my bass boat level with my 2500. Needed 4" with my 1500's.

If you're going to get an adjustable mount you don't need to worry about the drop because you can change it to suit almost any trailer. Just get one that adjusts from straight to 5" drop and that will take care of 90% of the trailers you will be towing.

Right now I'm leaning towards a 6in drop.

I think at minimum I need 4in. Might as well just get the 6in.

Also thinking of going with an aluminum bulletproof.

Something to consider with a dual-ball configuration like the one pictured. If the hitch is set low, the down-facing ball may see road rash.

As far as cost, quality costs but you only have to buy it once. Be aware that the various hitches also have varying load ratings, be sure to choose appropriately. I went aluminum and I'm not sorry I did. I bought my hitches 10 or more years ago so I'm sure I would be in sticker shock today. But in ten years, you may be the one typing a message like this :)

I ended up needing a 6" drop on my 1500 to get my enclosed trailer level. I made sure to buy a taller trailer the second go around since the PW is much taller. I have so many $30 fixed drop hitches I probably could have just bought an adjustable for the money I spent.
