87 octane all day all the time, even when towing my boat constantly on the 500 mile trip to our cabin.

I refuse to put 89 octane in, as it is rarely used by anyone. 87 gets the most usage followed by the 91/93 octane non-oxy gas. The 89 sits around in the gas station tanks too long at most stations. I'd much rather use fresh 87 than older gas with higher octane ratings.

Not entirely true. Years ago stations had 3 tanks - one being dedicated for 89.. But since pumps became computerized/automated, and that software/hardware has become more and more reliable, "most" gas stations have switched to modern dispensers that blend the low octane and high octane on the fly (at the correct ratio) to get 89 "midgrade." They then "converted" the old 89 tank into another 87 tank - as that's the type of gasoline they sell the most of. An easy check to do over time is pay attention to what's available at your favorite gas station(s). If 93 is sold out, but 89 is still available, that likely = the station still uses a dedicated tank for "midgrade." Likewise if 87 is sold out, but 89 is still available. If 89 is sold out, along with either 87 or 91-93, it's blended while you're pumping, and isn't sitting stagnant. Just FYI.

Another FYI is: Octane, by law, at the pump is the *minimum* octane being dispensed. Figure 0.2-0.5 higher than advertised. I've seen results from a few samples I had tested back in the day that were even a full point higher. Pretty cool.

87 is fine in our Hemi's, but you might see better performance from 89 for reasons that I, many other forum members, and the SAE have already explained a million times.

If you expect the most out of your engine, provide it the fuel that it was tuned for. Otherwise, do whatever you want! :favorites13:

I have a BP Driver Rewards so I save usually around .30 a gallon and use 89 there. I also have Kroger Fuel Points and save .40-.80 a gallon and use 93 there. Been told by a delivery guy that its all the "same", but each gas station puts its own "additives" so that's the price difference. Kroger doesn't use any so the gas is always around .20 cheaper. So I've been told, not researched. Long trips, like next month going to Fla, I'll use 93 from BP with a can of SeaFoam.

I am using 92 Octane with an aggressive 91 Octane tune. Was using Fred Meyer/Kroger but just switched to Shell V-power. I asked Sean (Hemifever) and he said Shell and BP usually have the best reports on data logs...So I switched :)

I'll run 87 most of the time unless I tow. Then it's minimum 89. Usually run Shell or Exxon.

Manual says 89

And, that is what I use 89 octane.
Been temped from time to time to throw in some 93 octane to mix with it, but not sure if our engines can adapt to the octane boost?

93 with my 91 Greene Tune. Really need to update that as I didn't realize we only had 93 here and no 91 lol.

Why not 89 with a 89 tune?

I'm using the Diablo canned tune and they don't have a 89 canned tune. They say the 87 tune is the same as a 89 canned tuned. So they just make a 87 one.

That delivery guy was correct. I had a friend that delivered fuel as well. It all comes from the same tank. VERY few stations put in their own additives. The biggest differences from station to station is how well maintained their pumps & tanks are. Tank leaks letting in dirt & water is just one example.
