93 for my 93 green tune. Walmart and k Roger here in millington TN are **** but we have a raceway station that's busy so that where I go . I'm wondering if it's all the same then is the computer compensating for the octane difference and I'm really running an 87 tune without knowing it.hmmmm

Seems like I read something once about the 89 just being a mix of the 87 and 91/93 ... That they dont actually have its own "dedicated" tank...

I could look it up, but it's more fun to go off of a memory.

But what I do have experience with is BP gas. It is terrible. Every vehicle Ive put it in experienced a decrease in performance...I actually went so long w/o using it at one point that I forgot why I stopped using it... Filled up with some, truck drove like **** under acceleration, then it hit me. Damnit !

IMO

I hate the fact that fuel quality varies so much from station to station. I mean production is regulated, oil imports are regulated, emissions are controlled by additives, but yet some gas still sucks. I've gotten gas at one particular station 2 different times, same grade 2 weeks apart. One fill-up and the truck ran great, next fill-up and the truck ran like crap. I guess it's just hit or miss. California...ugh[emoji57]

Is anybody seeing better gas mileage from the higher grade of fuel?

Not entirely true. Years ago stations had 3 tanks - one being dedicated for 89.. But since pumps became computerized/automated, and that software/hardware has become more and more reliable, "most" gas stations have switched to modern dispensers that blend the low octane and high octane on the fly (at the correct ratio) to get 89 "midgrade." They then "converted" the old 89 tank into another 87 tank - as that's the type of gasoline they sell the most of. An easy check to do over time is pay attention to what's available at your favorite gas station(s). If 93 is sold out, but 89 is still available, that likely = the station still uses a dedicated tank for "midgrade." Likewise if 87 is sold out, but 89 is still available. If 89 is sold out, along with either 87 or 91-93, it's blended while you're pumping, and isn't sitting stagnant. Just FYI.
Not entirely false either. Many of the gas stations that I patron in Minnesota sell 93 non-oxy, which is not "allowed" in on-road vehicles. Therefore, the 87 and the 89 are their own tanks as they can't mix in the non-oxy gas with the 87 to make a blended 89/90.

So some of this depends on the state you are in and the specific gas stations.

I have seen a benefit of running 89 over 87. Running canned 87 diablo tune as there is no 89 tune. Still seeing a benefit of 89 over 87.

Not that I think you're wrong, but are you sure about that? Your state has a goofy set of ethanol laws. I'd be curious to know exactly how they do it, considering most places just blend the low and high octane together at the pump.

Do you feel a big difference in power/ torque compared to the 89 together with the hf 89 tune?
I felt a big difference between the Diablosport 87 tune and the HF 87/89.

1) if you have a completely stock motor and you are putting in anything more than 89 octane, you are litterlaly wasting your money. Google it, its a fact of the motor world.

2) Even though it says we can use 87, 89 is recommended for a reason. It has to do with knock and detonation of the fuel ( which is bad for your motor ).

3) The closer you are to sea level, the more you need to use the recommended octane rating ( in this case 89 octane ).

4) Can the computer on these vehicles correct for engine knock? Some say yes and some say no. All I know is for me, at 5-50 feet above sea level, i'm using the 89 octane. If you are in the hills or mountains ( has to do with the lower atmospheric pressure ), you can get away with 87 likely. If you are buying anything over 89 and you have a stock motor........you are wasting every cent over the cost of the 89 octane. there is absolutely no benefit to using that fuel.

Never run it below 1/4 tank. Once a month I'll put in 93 octane.

dont waste your money on the 93. Absolutely zero benefit from doing so.

And, that is what I use 89 octane.
Been temped from time to time to throw in some 93 octane to mix with it, but not sure if our engines can adapt to the octane boost?

You have it backwards. A motor tuned for high octane would have a problem adapting to a lower octane ( ie recommended 93 and you put in 87 ). As I said, anything higher than 89 for these trucks is a waste of money.

89 octane isn't sold in my area, it's 87 e10, 87 all gas or jump to 93.

Go with E0 87 octane. If you tow something heavy, it wouldn't hurt to spike about 50% of your tank with 93. That'll put you around 89-90 octane, and help resist det. - which would cause the ECU to pull timing (reducing power - not something you want to happen when towing).

I use 93 octane and royal purple or lucas octane boosters every fill up. I have the hemifever 93 octane high rev 180 stat custom tune. I only have 3 choices where I live, circle k, walmart, and chevron. I use chevron.

89 for me.
Stock 2012 with the 4.7.
For a long time I was using an app to track all my mileage and there was a noticeable decrease in mileage when I tested 87 for about 4 months straight so I went back to 89. I wish I saved the data so I'd have some screenshots to prove it but to me the 89 is worth the extra cost.

Recently switched from 87 to 89. Lots of 55mph country road driving/70mph highway driving. Went from 320 miles before the gas light came on to 410 before the gas light came on. Some might be I am driving even more MPG conscience with the 89, just to see if it makes a difference. But engine has seemed to quiet down a bit as well and just seems to like it better IMO.

2013 Quad Cab express 32k miles. Recently switched from Ford due to reliability issues!!!! So far, so good. Purchased at 29k. As long as all the axle seals, wheel bearings, transmission, ball joints, etc don't go by 85k miles I will be happy lol

Nice, welcome :roflsquared: I am only a few months old here myself and my first Ram as well. I actually went to the dealership to buy an used Silverado but after getting to the Ram I bought it was a no brainer. The Hemi is a proven engine both performance and reliability and IMO I got SO MUCH MORE from Chrysler than from Chevy with the money I spent. I mean to stay the same price and miles I would have had to bought a rust/corrosion infested dull paint job silverado. Interior smelt like dirty wet carpet cleaner too. But the engine and tranny were golden at least :puke:

It was a nice surprise to stumble into the performance community like Moe's performance and the many around here that have modded these Rams, nice bonus on top of the purchase.

93 with 91 HF Tune, usually Kwik Fill, Speedy (mostly) or Mirabito, strangely gas grades go mostly 87, 89, 93 except Mirabito which most have 91 ethanol free.
