So im trying to decide on headers to buy tomorrow from summit. The 3 choices are the summit truck headers, pacesetter performance header, and flowtech shorty smog headers. FYI their all shorties. Is there any real performance difference between them?

Make sure they're stainless steel. Regular steel is going to rust really fast even if they're coated.

Get the most expensive ones you can.

You definitely get what you pay for with headers.

I was planning on painting with high temp paint. Now when you say you get what you pay for, are we talking quality or product (ie welds) or actual preformance value

The product itself. The cheaper headers WILL crack at the welds, and will do it must faster if you live up north.

The headers I have are rusted and cracked. Part# says they're the painted steel Pacesetter shorties.

Merc has Gibson shorties on his truck. They must be good since they're still on and he ain't known to put crap quality stuff on his truck that's for sure.

You will like the Gibbies, I put mine on back in 08 and they have not changed to much looks wise. I have reused the same gaskets that came with the headers four time's and they still sealed great until this summer. One thing you will not like is the four bolts that are one big PITA to deal with. Next get a nice long open/box 7/16 wrench. You will have to grind the outer box end to a smaller dia (thinner wall), as the bolt to header pipe is very tight. Grind off only as much as needed, this is no place for a cheap wrench as you need the strengh of a better tool.

No ****. That was a huge PITA. Just trying to remove the studs took hours of blood and smashed fingers.

The only problem i have now is the drivers side flange doesn't seat correctly and I have a leak. Have any tips for that?
