Check out the 3rd Gen exhaust sticky at the top of the page. Should give you a better idea

I can tell you for certain my 14" xr1, which is a hell of a lot louder than the 14" magnaflow, is much quieter than with my cutout open.

So the cutout does determine how loud your exhaust is? With the cutout open it will be much louder than with the cutout closed?

The cutout bypasses your muffler. So with it closed the exhaust flows through your muffler, when its open the bulk of the exhaust gasses follows the path of least resistance which is through the cutout. So yes it is louder through the cutout, might not be as deep, but it will definitely be louder

If you are planning to get he cutout, then I would definately go with the 18". The 18" Maggy sounds great with very little drone. Then when you want to get rowdy, open the cutout and let it rip.

This is how mine is set up. I love it. You should def replace the factory y pipe too. The stock one is very restrictive.

I wish I had the money to do all these mods to my truck but I am a broke a** college student. lol. The only mods I've done so far is window tint and a bed liner. If I wasn't going to get the cutout which size would you recommend between the 14in and 18in?

I think what they are saying is get the 18" magnaflow muffler for your everyday great sound and also buy a 3" cutout for those moments you want to make a lot of noise. When you decide to use the cut out you basically are sending the exhaust straight out of the 3" hole instead of having it go through throw muffler and out the back. Its basically like NOT having an exhaust at all when using the cut out.

Never mind just read your post again and realized you said wasn't getting the cut out. So go with the 14" if you want a nice deep sound that will be load but not obnoxious.

I have a Maggy 14, but wished I had a Flowmaster 40 or Super 44. But after a long talk with Matt (Hemi450hp), I have decided to keep the Maggy and add a RaceLand Cutout for sound.

Hemi450hp said:
I used to have a Flowmaster 10 series on my 03 hemi. That is Flowmasters smallest muffler, and with an open cutout in front of the muffler I gained 12hp/12tq. Later on, I switched the FM out for a 14" magnaflow. Opening the cutout only showed a gain of 3hp/3tq over having it closed. This means that the Magnaflow made 9hp more than the FM on my truck. Most shops will tell you that you need that extra backpressure, but it is not true. A restrictive muffler will show more of an immediate tq gain at very low rpms, but once you go WOT, you will appreciate that free flowing design of the Magnaflow.

If you dont add the cutout, then I would go with the 14". I think the 18" is going to be too quiet for you based on what it sounds like you want.

Ok I will probably go with the 14in then. The 18in would be a good choice down the road when I have more money. Will I need to take my truck some place to determine the inlet/outlet size for my muffler since I don't really know what the heck I'm doing?

That's for sure what I need to order? Because there are some 14in mufflers that have larger outlets than inlets. Everything I have on my truck now is stock as far as the exhaust goes.

If you currently have a factory exhaust, then it is 3" before and after the muffler. The 1 I linked to above is the replacement you need.

Ok thank you! And what is the difference between the stainless steel and the polished stainless steel muffler? Is there a reason for me to get the polished one over the less expensive one?

Polished just looks nicer. Unless you plan to show the underside of your truck to people, the standard stainless is fine.

No difference aside from the outside appearance. The polished just has more of a shine.
