Yep - I plug mine in when the temps drop below 10° F and when I start it in the morning, the coolant temp jumps above 100° after about 3 minutes of idle (lowest it displays is 100) and the oil is about 45°F immediately when I start it. Much nicer than letting it idle for 15~20 minutes which doesn't really bring the temp up anyways...

Had mine 4yrs and never plugged it in, always starts right up but I never see -40 lol. More like maybe -10 .
Should plug it in probably better on the truck but just never end up doing it.
Had a 97 6.5 chevy and if you did not plug it in then there was a good chance is was not starting.

I plug mine every night and use a cab heater in the truck when there some snow or freezing rain forecast to keep the windows clean.

I was thinking of getting an oil pan heater, but with the condition here, the block heater is enough since the oil temp start to rise in less than 5 min idling at -10*c.

oil temp is the slowest for me. coolant gets warm pretty fast but oil takes a good 15-20 min to start moving even while driving. transmission gets warm pretty quick but pretty sure i heard something about the 8 speed having a heater

I don't think I have ever seen anything below like... 20F? And that might be one or two days out of the year. LOL

come on up here for a bit. there's nothing like breathing in fresh air chilled to -30C or so. oh and working in the cold where your skin easily splits open and handling nice cold metal tools that stick to your hand is pretty fun

I think I will stay down here unless it's for a vacation! :roflsquared:

BUT!!! I have seen the opposite of that spectrum! I was a 63b (wheel mechanic) in the army and I deployed a few times to Iraq where if you leave a wrench out in the sun for too long, it will burn your hand! :favorites13:

I guess you could compare it to... Grabbing your womans blow dryer, turning it on a few inches from your face and having her throw sand at you while standing in a swarm of flies?
