I just scheduled new tires to be put on tomorrow. After much debate I went with my original plan of 295/70/18 coopers at3 xlt on stock steelies.

I currently have the same tire in 275/70/18 that I had put on my previous 18 2500 6.4 with 3.73s. I lost about a mpg putting those tires on that truck. When I traded the truck I had the tires swapped over as they were still very new, so I never did get to see the mpgs of the Firestone’s on my 2020 2500 6.4 with 4.10s.

I specifically went with 4.10s because I wanted to put a taller tire on and not sacrifice much performance. There is only 4 pounds difference between the 295’s and the 275’s I have on so I don’t think that will be much of a factor as the 1” increase in height and width.

Am I dreaming that I could see an increase in highway mpg with the reduced gear ratio as a result? Or that I won’t see much if any decrease in overall mpg. I drive this truck daily, many hundreds of miles a week. I get money for fuel and the truck from my company but I still don’t want to take too much of a hit.

a 295/70-18 is a nice size tire altho if I were given a choice and was set on 18's I would go 285/75-18. a little taller and narrower. I have a 2020 with 4.10's and see zero difference mpg wise between 35/12.5-17 and 285/70-17 altho in my case there is 20lbs difference in tire weight. I run both sets as I have both mounted on wheels and switch back and forth whenever I feel like it. I notice a difference in peppiness with the smaller tires but not in mpg. I calibrate my speedometer so it is accurate each time i switch.

That’s good to hear on the performance front. I should have said that the 295’s were my second choice after the 285/75’s. There is a big wait on the coopers in that size and they’re quite a bit more expensive, so my hand was forced. I thought about another brand in that size but they’re all much heavier and even more expensive.

What are you using to recalibrate your speedometer?

I got my tires on today and I’m pretty happy with them. I’ve had a few sets of these tires now, never this size and love them. I miss my raised white letters but I think it’s a good trade off. No performance negatives that I could tell so that’s great. I’m going to get AEV procal snap also.

I'm running the same tire just a tad smaller than you at 285/75/17 and they're a good mix of style and function- I didn't want to go big while towing 11k. I'm also running 3.73 gears because that's what was available when I bought- it had to come from MA to get the few options I do have. Good to see another from New Hampsha on here ;)

Yup born and raised in the free state! I agree this tire size seems to be good compromise. At the end of the day it’s a work truck it needs to be functional but I like a bit of style. I shot down to Connecticut to get my truck because there wasn’t much here, and the 4.10s with the v plow already on it.

I wouldn’t normally post pics of an unwashed truck but It’s been too rainy and I’ve been too busy.

Nice Mirrors. Had them on my 18 2500. My tires were 295-70-18.PXL_20201008_183031357.jpg
