Mine doesn't do that and I didn't see a setting in the EVIC options for it either.

I know what the problem is. From what has been described to me here. It is a real feature. Just not one normally available on our trucks.
I did it to the truck and thought it was something else. In trying to get the rear power sliding window we installed to work. I toggled a BCM setting for doors-frameless window and heard CLUNK and the rear window started working. But from the words used here I can guess it didn’t have the effect I thought at the time. The rear slider starting to work had more to do with changing any setting rather than the one I did. I’ll flip it off and I’m sure it’ll go back to normal.

The picture of my truck with fenders hood bumper but no grill is what it looks like now. I have a few others like the cab and box off when we were replacing the front frame. When the interior was completely gutted and we had just put the dash frame back in. Because the guys who cut the fenders etc off the front started a fire inside and didn’t see it right away. It burnt the BCM and body harness. My 2015 tradesman now how as 2014 BCM and body harness from a well appointed 2014 Sport edition

Unfortunately the truck and I are 3000 miles apart. So I didn’t have many pics from when it got delivered from the insurance auction as I wasn’t there. My Dad who is a mechanic and about to retire has been doing most of the work. I’m handling the electrical and software side and diags on things he’s never tried before. I just spent a week out there. Married the 2014 Sport premium Body harness to the tradesman tail harness. 39 vs 31 wires and a day of splicing. But everything is working and running and I’ll finish the interior electrical when I go back in July with my kids and we drive it 3000 miles home.

Every single part has come from wreckers that he does work for so he gets parts very cheap and sometimes free.

I only have a distance photo of the truck before much was done to it. You can see the fenders and front end were missing and the hood is there but bent. The box was fine but we removed it so we could fix the frame.Box off.jpg

And in case your wondering, here is what a RAM looks like with the Box off, and the Cab is floating in the air above the frame. Here it is torn down to the point where the engine is about to come off and the front section of frame (which is bent) is about to be cut off.IMG_0353.jpg IMG_0355.jpg

Rado, Thanks it's been a whole lot of fun, a wild learning experience and thanks to the apparently infinite numbers of favors people owed to my dad the mechanic, it's probably the cheapest rebuild ever done, and the Tradesman has turned almost completely into a Laramie. Its a 2015 with 20,000 miles and I've never seen such a rust free 4 year old in my life, you could serve dinner off the underside of the cabin and box, and we haven't touched any body work other than from the front fenders forward.

To relear the window module roll the window down and hold the switch down for 5 seconds and roll it up and hold the switch in the up position for 5 seconds after its closed. That is the procedure from FCA.

It is meant to lessen wear on the rubber gaskets around the door during opening and closing, and to make a better seal.
My Camaro ZL1 windows did that, and so did my Jaguar.

OK, but it’s not a standard function on the Ram

This procedure just resets the windows if the auto up/down stops working. What he is describing is an actual feature. He replaced the BCM, and used the AlfaOBD to configure the BCM settings to his truck’s features and must have accidentally turned the feature on. The question is, what setting was it.
@GordDavey, I’m not sure if the frameless window feature is the one. On my 2017 tradesman, it is “not set”. On some other trucks I see in the shared BCM files, it is “set”, so it very well could be for the rear slider, as I don’t have one. There is another setting under doors called “rear door short drop behavior”, but you said it was the front windows, correct? Either way, let us know what setting you figure it out to be.

Jimmy07, I'm sure this Doors-Frameless Window is the setting I changed. I only changed about 6 settings, most relating to the new heated/vented seats and turning off things like LED taillights/Projector headlamps which were on and needed to be turned off to clear the errors. I had gone thru the list 4 times looking for anything related to the rear window and found nothing, so I thought I would give this one a try. Given the clunk from the rear window at the exact moment I flipped that setting, I figure for sure that this was the correct setting. But once people here confirmed that such A) feature exists (I'd never heard of it this behavior before, and B) it appears on cars like convertibles and others without a frame around their window, I know that even though it appeared to be this setting that made the rear slider work, it was simply coincidence. Odds are if I had performed the body reset procedure it would have had the same effect on getting the rear slider to start working. I know it'll behave properly once I switch it back, as soon as the week long reno to the workshop is done, and I can get back to working on the truck. I'll flip it back off, do the window reset procedure just to make sure.
Of course it'd make a nice party trick against a few friends!

Hopefully that’ll do the trick for you. It just makes me wonder, though, when looking at all the shared BCM configurations, all the Laramies (trucks that come with rear sliders) frameless window is set, but on all the tradesmans and expresses (truck’s that don’t come with rear sliders) frameless window is not set. Mine is not set from the factory, and I changed it to set, and I got no results. I’m just not sure, but let us know.

I don’t know about the Ram, but my Mustang does this so it is a “thing”. On the Mustang the top of the glass doesn’t rest in a channel, it just rests against the weather strip. The one inch or so that the window goes down keeps you from slamming the glass against the rubber seal.

I will post to this thread when I am sure about the setting, just to set the record straight, and close it up properly.

Also curious, where you finally able to configure the BCM strictly using the AlfaOBD and able to write your VIN to it, or did you end up having to get the dealer to finish it off?
