Going to install the truxedo bed lights tomorrow. By looking under the bed it would be a lot easier to be able to tap into the 7 wire trailor lights. My question is would I tap the black or red wire and should I disconnect the neg battery wire first?

This is the kit I am using...I am open to any suggestions....

Thank you

I have the same lights in my Express! You will love them. The lights were easy to install. Deciding on how to "light them up" was the challenge. I have a topper and Bedrug for my pups, so I wanted to be able to turn them on from the cab or in back. I was able to tap into the power wire for my topper light. I'm sure the Leer guys tapped into the constant "hot" in my trailer wiring bundle. I also ran a switched wire from the cab through the firewall and back to my bed. I fabricated a junction box from Radio Shack with a two way switch(on - off - on) so that I can control the lights from the cab or throw the switch the other way and control it from the bed. The only problem I have is that my Greyhounds sometimes bump the toggle and turn on the lights. Fortunately, the brightness is always noticed when I go to get them out. ;);)

I ran my a setup that i built myself, but I tapped the red and black wire you referenced and I honestly don't remember if I disconnected the battery. Its been so long.

And as mentioned, you will love the lights. :)
