Anyone have them? I recently acquired some 2016 Ram Sport wheels with a very bad paint job. I'm thinking color matched Line-X in Granite Crystal or color matched professional painting.

The first Line-X shop I spoke with said they wouldn't do it because it could throw the wheels off-balance but I think the "right" shop could do it.

Thoughts and/or pictures welcome!

I also think that any spray-on liner could impact the balance; and then make it hard to re-balance. Would be an interesting wheel treatment though.

Yeah, I'm not set on it. When I searched it looks like it has been done by some but I want speak with someone who has done it!

I also think color matched will look good with either coating on a Granite Crystal Ram.

That's what I thought too! I wasn't going to press the matter with the shop though...if they don't do it they don't do it.

I was thinking the rear of the wheels where weights attach would remain un Line-X'd...

How thick would the material be? Might offer more protection than a paint job. Also, if you did the liner, and then decided you didn't like the results, could it be removed somehow and the wheels painted?

Maybe it could? I'm not sure...I was thinking LINE-X offers lifetime touch-ups no? That would be peace of mind...

Good point on the lifetime touch-ups. As a thought, line-x treated wheels might also look good with line-x treated bumpers.

True, honestly I was just thinking anything would look better than how the do presently and Line-X would probably be cheaper and easier to hide defects from previous painting attempt.

I'll post pictures tomorrow of the wheels in their present condition when I have daylight. I think they were polished alloy and they were painted black (poorly). When I power washed them a good deal of clear coat (I think) came off...

From looking around it appears quite a few in the Jeep community do this as a DIY with Rust-Oleum or Dupli-Color bed liner. Looks pretty decent. The more I think about it the more I think I may DIY this.525661970d44907f850335000ed3b52d.jpg

...and here from our very own forums.

My friend read online to slip index cards between the wheel and the tire instead of trying to use tape so here it is sanded down

Here's what I'm working with. I can't tell if they were originally factory black or polished but I suspect the latter...8ee81d3ecc538037aa0734901b5b1405.jpg945cbf61aa5ac964857c90c42db284cd.jpgc3f7329262a5eac634d840c4a9a688ba.jpgd80530468a44c18a06379364b34abc77.jpga55384dbd8e85e07d036e361aad1d617.jpg3f18acfb2bfec944f31784bb1f4e69fd.jpg9f611015a4c9c06b40774837d14693a1.jpg

It’s not done wildly for a reason. It would be wildly impossibly to balance, you’d be left with a wobble wagon. Powder coat is the best way to do it. Live and learn this lesson: do it the right way the first time or don’t do it at all.

We'll see...my research has a lot of people saying that who have never tried it and a bunch who have that pay $10 to $15 to have the wheels "balanced" (it's an Ancient Chinese secret)...
