3:21 rear vs 3:92 gas mileage?

Blue is the only match in the chart. First and second are the most important for towing because it is when the torque is needed to get the vehicle moving. I have changed final drive gear ratios in dozens of customers trucks in the last fifty years in my shop and it makes a difference. The ratios...

3:21 rear vs 3:92 gas mileage?

Can lock the converter in every gear but only does so depending on throttle position. Otherwise no point in having a torque converter.

3:21 rear vs 3:92 gas mileage?

I said in each respective gear. A 3.21 truck will not select the gears in attempt to match a 3.92 truck. Why do you think different final drive ratios exist? You need to drive more trucks pulling loads. All manufacturers offer different ratios for different uses. If you want to get real...

3:21 rear vs 3:92 gas mileage?

Only for cruising. Starting off with a load like a trailer the engine will be running faster in each respective gear. This will allow the 3.92 truck engine to be closer to its torque rating and it will pull better in each respective gear. The RPM @70 mph is 1950. With stock tires and 3.92. That...

3:21 rear vs 3:92 gas mileage?

What about first gear? Same. Plus the 3.92 truck can pull better with less shifting. The ratios don’t equal out in every gear.

3:21 rear vs 3:92 gas mileage?

Highway cruise mileage on my 3.92 limited is 20-21. The 3.21 will need to shift more since the 8sp has two overdrive gears. The 3.92 just keeps pulling up those hills. The only way to compare is to change the gears in the same truck driving the same course with the same driver over several weeks...

1 gal. Of gasoline in 28 gal diesel performance increase.

I have been in truck repair business since the 60s, I have owned dozens of Diesel cars and trucks. I bought my first Mercedes Diesel in the early 70s. The owners manual stated that up to 5 gallons of gasoline could be added to 20 gallons of Diesel 2 for winter use. That was then. Diesel fuel is...

    Iridium plugs???

I have used iridium spark plugs in my airplane for 30 years and they last much longer like some said but I don’t agree with “nothing else “ statement. They stay cleaner and keep the gap setting longer as well. Since they are fine wire and the durability of the metal. This maintains a like new...

    Goodyear Endurance Trailer Tires

There is more than weight to consider with tires. I live and drive in the mountains and the roads are mostly sealed with a rough coating, it full pressure or the outside will scuff off rapidly. Also lower pressures increase heat.

Nice to see diesel prices lately

It is forecasted to drop even more. Prices near freeways are often higher. Plus the fact it does usually declines in the spring through summer. Truck shipping is declining also contributing.

Careful if you want RAM EV, it maybe more expensive than you think

Just because 80% is best to save the battery it also is used to avertise reduced charging times. Yes one can research further but marketing knows that most don’t. Why not just market the same as rated distance? Backing in is a problem with a trailer not to mention the public and driving skills...

    Prefill Oil Filter

More oil is always better than less. Lots of vehicles have side mounted and down mounted filters. So you can’t always prefill. The talk of contaminants going into the engine is crazy, what is that person pouring in? Used oil? It keeps saturating the media as you fill also. Someone mentioned...

Careful if you want RAM EV, it maybe more expensive than you think

EVs are not the greatest thing. The misleading advertising will tell you that. Why do they rate distance on a full charge but recharge time 80%? Trailer towing distance is not mentioned but has been shown to be useless. Charging stations are mostly back in and not covered. Not good. Electric...

    Receiver design is terrible

The trailer is already a third party item, the pin is also, trailer chains can be replaced by anyone who knowingly can do the work, using the proper materials and methods. I have replaced and modified trailer chains for over 40 years on trucks through class 8. It’s not a short cut, just way of...

    Receiver design is terrible

I would just add a screw pin shackle if I had a problem. Trailer chain hooks and hitch lock designs vary widely, so hopefully owners are capable of selecting compatible components so they won’t become the actual moron.
