Ok, so I have a 2016 Ram Express 1500 Single Cab. 5.7l with Edelbrock E-Force Supercharger and Long Tube headers (catless straight pipe).
The past month I have been having a problem where I would slow to a stop and the truck would suddenly give me a message to “Shift to P to start then select gear”. While Air/Fuel Gauge drops to “8.23” and stays there. When I fully come to a stop the RPMs start to fluctuate from 300-1100 even after shifting to park. I then turn the truck off, if I turn it back on right away it will continue to run rough while Air/Fuel reads 8.23 consistently. Then after about 10 minutes of sitting I can turn it back on and runs normal again.
This would happen whenever coming to a stop, but recently starts to also do it when I’m cruising at any MPH and notice the Gauge drop and I lose throttle then pull over.
I had my tuner check it out numerous times the past few weeks every time leaving as the truck running normal but continues to force me to shut it off. I also took it to a performance specialist and a general mechanic both said they didn’t find anything wrong with fuel system. Fuel flowing well, all sensors working, etc.
Now I’m stuck trying to find someone else that can check it out since nobody seems to figure out why it keeps giving me problems.
Only Engine Code I have got so far is “P0171”
If there is anyone that has any idea what it could be and where could I start before I take it to dealership for expensive diagnosis and repairs?

My 2019 longhorn is currently at the dealer for the 7th time for this reason. They don’t know what’s wrong with it

I thought I replied to your post back on the 13th but I guess not. Have you made any headway with your problem?

What engine management system are you running on your truck? Stock unlocked PCM? HP Tuners or Diablosport?

If have have the ability to take a log when the problem is happening I would be happy to take a look the log as well as the current tune.

The message “Shift to P to start then select gear” is initiated to protect your engine and transmission. This happened to me once. Check out this article from MechanicBase at https://mechanicbase.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/p0171-code.jpg. There are a few other articles that may help you diagnose the issues you are having.
I would really appreciate if you have any information on the length or part number for the serpentine drive belt you have on your truck, have not been able to source a new one from Edelbrock. Much appreciated

My questions are as follows

Have you looked at your O2 sensors or did your tuner turn them off after installation of long tubes?

If no, the P0171 code is set by your vehicle's powertrain control module (PCM) when it detects that the air-to-fuel ratio of your vehicle is too lean. This means that the PCM is relaying that the engine is receiving too much air into the combustion chamber and not enough fuel.

I think the 5.7 does not have a MAF, so it points you to O2 sensors. I would recommend you. On a cold exhaust system, take your O2 sensors out 1 by 1. I'd start on bank1, sensor 1, then bank2 sensor 1, etc. remove it, look for carbon build up, clean it. I use carb cleaner to spray on it and see if it drains clear or black. If black it is removing carbon.

Let it dry for a few minutes while you inspect it's wiring and then reinstall. It will work afterwards or it will not if all wires are intact and the sensor is not burnt out. You have 4 of these if you have not removed them and tuned them out. Do all 4. If you get another O2 sensors code, then I'd recommend replacing the sensor with Mopar products only. Do not buy from advance, auto zone or O'Reilly's. Even though they sell Bosch sensors. Get OEM!.

If this doesn't work. Look for a vacuum leak, it will have to be large enough to cause problems. That will take some time. Specifically I would check your pcv valve and hose, it's large enough to cause the problem. The hose connects under the supercharger and is prone to heat, which can deteriorate the hose.

Other than the above I'm out of ideas. Others may have better thoughts
