I am looking for a DIY on brakes

I am looking for help and more so a full DIY on brakes.

This truck is my most prized possession, and I love working on it. Although I don't want to touch my brakes unless I really know what I am doing.

I have paid firestone last sept $1000 for a completely new brake job. I am having the worst issues with it but I think I went over the warranty... i think. I believe it was 12000miles/12 months. I drove more then 12000 miles since then.

Anyways, I really want to learn all about the rams brake system. I want to be able to maintence it myself, bleed it myself, make sure I dont have stuck pistons...etc.

What kind of issues are you having with your brakes? They also make a tool that will allow you to spread the calipers without opening the bleeder screw, its alot easier IMO.

I use one of the old pads across both pistons on the caliper and use a C clamp to push them back in with. No way i would have paid anyone 1k to do my brakes.

same thing i do... no need for an extra tool

If your not very tech savvy i recommend the Haynes Manual for these trucks, they have step by step breakdowns of everything on the vehicle and they have pictures!!! Which for a guy like me helps alot, I have a good amount of technical background but still workign on brakes can be a scary thing. Your best bet is to just take your time and if you know someone that has a good idea of what there doing have them sit in and help you and explain to you what the parts are and how they operate. They do make tools for just about everything, however, if your a baller on a budget like me, then a good ol fashion c clamp and rubber mallet can go a long way. And make sure you do your pads at the same time on both fornt wheels and at the same time on both back wheels. Also check for runout on your rotors because having warped rotors will ruin brand new brake pads and that sucks! We are here to help and there are alot of very knowlegable people on here so any questions ask.

I fully disassembled them, painted them, ordered rebuild kits for all 4 calipers, and install all new hardware. They are being install and my trucks about finished. I cannot wait.

Hey man, this is really really old thread. But at the time I made the thread I had no clue as to how servicing brake was. I taught myself since then to rebuild everything on my truck.

my entire truck has a rebuilt steering and suspension system that would have me thousands for someone else to do.

All the money that I would have paid just labor for paid for all my parts.
