I'm new here. Glad to have found this site. Anyway, I got an 04 Dodge Ram 2500 HD quad cab 4x4 8'bed. I went to Iraq for a year, truck had no real problems. Now when I plug in my 7 pin trailer connector, the parking lights come on and won't turn off until I start the truck and then turn it off. I took my meter and checked at the plug and I have 12vdc at the parking light pin all the time.

I am also having a problem with my battery draining. Not sure if this is caused from this problem or something else. I'm pretty sure the battery is old enough that it's getting bad.

Any ideas where to start looking to try and solve this problem.

Welcome! Does the truck turn over ok? Maybe take it to a local parts store and let them test it. None the less, I don't think the battery is the issue.

No, battery is shot. But that's not the problem It's 2 separate problems. new battery, but lights still come on when trailer is plugged up..

ok, I checked, but didn't see anything. Even if mice like wires, I agree. how would that make the lights come on when it's plugged in? I could see them not working. I'll trace them again though.

check your conector its self could be crosing wires and back feeding power into your lights
that still dose not explain the fact that you can turn off the truck and restart it and they will turn off but its a start

if you find what wire is feeding your lights the power you could always wire in a switch for when you park the truck to keep the lights off

OK Changed the battery, pulled out the box, separated the FCM, blew it out with air and put it all back together. Now I don't have a drop with the power off, but I have no horn, no fog lights and the headlights come on when I turn to the parking lights. I guess it could be the TIPM, but I'd like to figure out what it really is. This is so aggravating...

ok, wires are good. but... I found out last night while driving back 2 hours from the race track, I have no brake lights, no turn signals on the outside (it flashes inside the car), no wipers or fluid squirt adn the high beams won't stay on. Anybody know how to check the TIPM or the FCM to diagnose since everything I've read points to these?

Have you changed your trailer plug yet? Same thing was happening to mine, lights were always on. Ended up being the 7 pin plug itself was corroded.

Didn't try that yet. Talking with my friend who runs a shop, he thinks the FCM has died. We're going to try and check that this weekend depending on his schedule.
