So, i'm a heavy equipment operator, and sometimes you get a machine that the radio doesn't work in, so today, in a machine that had no radio i got to thinking.....

I have and old deck(cd player, ipod plug in) and 2-6.5" mtx 3 way speakers, and a 3 foot cord with a cigarette lighter plugin, the kind you would plug into your cigarette lighter to charge your phone or what have you. So i was thinking if i built a box, put in the speakers and the deck hooked everything up and was able to plug it into the cigarette lighter and bam! tunes! of course i would plug in an antenna if i wanted radio, but i'd probly just plug in my iphone

So, my question to you guru's, would it work?

I highly doubt whether your head unit is drawing enough current/amps or whether it requires excess levels of voltage to cause any concerns.

Therefore.....

If the cigarette's power feed is comming from a solid source [direct battery positive link] and you have a good/clean/solid ground [sanded body or negative battery post], and assuming you have correct gauge wires, then yes, it will work fine.

Good luck.

My only question is if the speakers and head unit would draw too many Amps through the cigarette lighter and blow the fuse to it.

they make cb mounts like this for truckers that switch rigs every day
its a small box that you mount your cb in and has a built in speaker in the top
should work with a radio
ill try to find a link and post it

they are called slip seat boxes they come in all shapes and sizes

maybe i'm missing the point, but why wouldn't you just buy something like this and keep a supply of extra batteries with you?

It seems to me that this would be easier to lug around than what you are trying to build, just my .02. :)

Convert, for now.

small
Kicker IK350, and you can get an optional battery pack that you can recharge for 12 hours worth of play. Plug iphone, Ipod, etc into it and it charges while it plays. :)

You (well maybe I) could do it pretty simply, but it would be cheaper/easier to just buy one of the above
