So, I'm about to embark on a 4,300 (ish) mile journey from Alaska to Georgia. I'm going to be towing a 6x12 tandem axle Uhaul. It's going to be a decently size load and I intended on using the tow/haul mode. I was just wondering if anyone could give a text book answer as to what it does specifically & also a personal experience/opinion on it..my last truck was stickshift and didn't have this mode. Around town I don't really notice a difference (maybe a slightly higher gear shift). I was hoping it would incorporate transmission temperatures somehow since overheating is possible but I have a tranny cooler so I'm not too worried about it.

Thanks for any input guys

All it does is change your shift points so you will be in higher rpm's throughout every gear, you have better control of the load that way. I use mine 24/7 even if I'm not towing.

Personally I run tow/haul 95% of the time whether I'm towing or not. I've noticed that the 6.4 hemi likes to be around 2k rpms. Towing that size trailer you'd be fine not using tow/haul. I towed one that size with a lifted grand Cherokee from Georgia to upstate NY with no problems.

Yup. If you truck is doing a lot of "hunting" between gears, use the tow/haul. If it pulls just fine on the flat ground, manually engage it before a hill. Yes, you can leave your cruise on when doing this. All it does is drop you out of high gear. By engaging it before a hill your giving your cruise a chance to keep you at highway speed going up the hill. Shut it off at the top and enjoy lower rpm's.

not certain but i think tow/haul also locks out high gear too.
i pulled my 8000lb boat about 100 miles in tow/haul and my temps were fine. i also had a 14x7 tandem axle enclosed trailer (about 3500lbs) i pulled with my last truck (2007 ram 1500 QC 4.7L 4x4 3.92s). i always used tow/haul pulling it. i only mention it cause you will have much more frontal area than i do with my boat so you may have more resistance at highway speeds. my '07 pulled it like nothing in town but on the highway it wouldn't come out of 3rd gear and ran about 3000 rpm but that was the crappy 4.7

It doesn't lock out high gear on the 8 speed.
