I'm purchasing an 88 dodge ram 150 sc/sb auto with a 318. The guy said the carb is no good. The truck is a long way from my house so I was planning on taking a manifold and carb with me. Any suggestions will be welcome an very helpful on what the best products to purchase.

^Unless someone converted it over to carb...which might be the case since it doesn't run.

could be but people always confuse the 2 since they do both look similar but there is a huge difference.

Cool thanks for your help. You seem to know are those engines worth a head an cam swap or should I just look into other options?

as long as there is nothing wrong with the heads you should probably just leave them be. i don't think you will really find better head for them unless you want to spend way more money on the engine than it is worth. now changing the cam might make a bit of a difference but i think a cam for that engine might be a bit more expensive since i am pretty sure 88 was the first year they started using roller cams in the trucks.

i am not really sure of the best place to get a cam for them roller engines. i think you can get reground cams but still not sure. not too familiar with the later LA engines. i think you might be able to use a cheaper cam with the later engine but i think you would have to change push rods since i think push rods got shorter when they switched to roller cams.

Probably just start searching Summit. Just need to make sure you have a roller engine or not.

kind of. 88 was the first year that the 318's were TBI and i am pretty sure it was the first year that roller cams were used. the only engine that stayed carb was the 360 but it was converted to TBI in 89

Does that mean it could possibly be a 360?
