Wow! Now I am starting to see what all of the complaints are about. This summer they didn't do all that bad in the rain. When we dropped down into the 30's & 40's the compound must have really hardened up cause they don't get traction for ****! Yesterday we got our first recordable amount of snow & it's impossible to drive in any amount of it without being in 4WD. Ya drop $50,000 on a vehicle the least they can do is give you some decent tires! :flame:

Just replaced my TransForce AT tires last week with 25K. Had about 6/32'' left for tread but they were slipping with just rain and did not want to go into this winter with them.

I agree, they do suck for a OEM installed tire.

As heavy as that fat ass is I wouldn't think sand bags would make much of a difference but I will try it thanks.

It's amazing what 320lbs over the rear axle will do for a pickup

I'm in west Michigan, and just drove in the heavy snow we had this weekend with a 6000# trailer, and the Firestone Transforce AT's did a great job.
I run BFG all terrains on all of my trucks, but the Firestones came with this truck so I'll use them in the winter and save my BFG's and good wheels for better weather.

Around 6-7/32's my Firestones stopped grabbing when the pavement was wet. I dumped them for some Michelins. If the tires are fairly low mileage, sandbags will help. I used five 70lbs bags.

I have some more wood to saw up for winter so maybe I will leave a little in the back not split up. I just figured as heavy as that thing is a little more weight wouldn't help that much. I used to leave 3-400lbs. of wood in the back of my Dakota but that truck weighed half as much as this pig. Guess ya gotta counter balance that Big Hemi!:naughty:

I had same problem. The tread sipping is almost gone even though you still have another 3/32" of tread depth before hitting the wear indicator strips.

Did not like taking off normally from a stop light on wet pavement and having the traction light flash because the crappy TransForce tires would not grip.

My last truck was a Ram 2500 hemi 2wd with the crappy firestones. First light snow of two inches left me stranded in my driveway....the truck would not move forward or backward. They are such a poor and dangerous tire....

I like the sand bags over firewood because I would still have some room to put stuff in the box. Not to mention, if you do get stock on some ice you have sand you can dump to help with traction.

It snowed up here and I couldn't get out of my driveway in 2wd. I try not to drive my truck in the winter because of the crap they put on the roads but damn. Hopefully next year I can put different tires on it. Pretty bad I have 11,000 miles and am looking at new tires because I can't stand the Firestone Junk Ram puts on their trucks.

600lbs of sand bags behind my rear wheels as counterweight for my plow. Rarely need 4WD on the road.

Some tires will have better traction than others on packed snow/ice, however these FS aren't that bad. As stated above try some weight in the bed, you'll be amazed at the difference. I've had 8 different pickups with dozens of different ATs or MTs over the last 25 years and have never had a pick-up/tire combination that didn't have some level of slippage on packed snow/ice. Some combinations were better, some worse. This current combination is far from the worst.

I never owned a 4x4 until 2004 or so. Back before they sold sandbags at your local hardware store, we cut truck inner tubes in half, filled them with sand, and tied off the ends with wire. Even hunted for 20yrs like that. Only once did we break out the chains and that was because we went somewhere we knew we probably shouldn't try.

Gotta put weight in the back or you will need 4wd to get in your driveway. My 7.3 PSD was was awful unless I had weight in the back, too much over the nose.

My problem isn't so much traction but the wear indicators are already showing after just 20,000 miles. Tires have been rotated and pressures where they should be. I agree- junk tires on an expensive truck.

Check back next winter and let us know how they are doing. I bet they will suck donkey balls.

Mine did fine the first winter when relatively new. Get at or below half tread depth and they will suck.
