6.4 HEMI
Hello All

Joined up here in anticipation of my ordered 2018 2500 Laramie with the 6.4 HEMI. I ordered it to replace my 2001 2500 5.9 Cummins. I definitely need more cab space for my family, and couldent justify the newer diesels, due to my short commute, and use of the truck.

That aside, I'm inquiring about a idle up feature of the 6.4 (where I live it is very cold for 5 months of the year) and if it is equipped from the factory, or can be enabled.

A quick google search brought up these links:

http://www.rambodybuilder.com/2015/docs/ram/adjidlespinstr.pdf

https://www.ramtrucks.com/assets/bbg/pdf/2016/docs/cc/dddpadjidlespeedinst.pdf

Those are outdated, I'm aware, but if you 2016/2017 guys have any insite/info that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

The second link you posted said; "standard equipment on 6.4L and 6.7L engines"

It seems the 2 links contradict each other. 1st one says it’s available on 2500,3500, ect, the 2nd says chassis cabs only and not available for pickups. Don’t know about you but I’ve never seen a 2500 chassis cab...........and my 2010 CTD had the feature and I used it in the winter.........as a side note, the CTD will idle up on its own if needed.

Seems like the 6.4 has this, any 6.4 owners out there to confirm?

My 2015 doesn't so this is news to me. Just went and tried it since it was just sitting there warming up anyways. Interested...

As far as I know my 2014 6.4 Hemi doesn't have this but it could be buried in the menus somewhere and I forgot about it. My old diesel had it and I could see it being useful with the crazy long amount of time it took to start cranking out heat. My Hemi starts blowing hot air within just a few minutes so it's not really an issue.

Also, the remote start is really nice. I just fire up the truck a few minutes before I take off and the inside is nice and warm once I get in. Also, I believe when you kick on the remote start and the outside temps are below a certain amount it starts heating and/or defrosting automatically so you don't have to remember to leave it on.

I think the idle up feature is only on the Cab and Chassis trucks with the Aisin since using the PTO feature of the Aisin requires you to idle up.

I use my idle up feature quite a bit on the farm to start up the tractor or other equipment that hasn't been used in a while. I hook up the cables, idle the truck up to about 1,300-1,500 rpm for a while and it usually does the trick.

I was wondering about that. An idle up on a gasser didnt make sense unless you were using a PTO.

My 3500 Laramie doesn’t have it. Just tried... maybe it’s an Allison transmission thing?

Yeah I noticed the links contradict themselves. Thanks for you guys who checked.

Im going to have to fool around with the scanner/laptop when I get the truck to see if its able to be activated. Ive got no one else around here with a newer 6.4 to test on.

High idle is kind of nice on hot days too when the a/c is running and truck is parked. Its better to have the mechanical fan turning a bit faster to keep the condenser cool, and it cools more efficiently because the compressor is turning a bit faster as well.

Just tried my 17' 6.4, it does not have it. The only time I've seen my truck high idle is during 4low range selection.

Hemi's don't have idle up feature. There's no reason for a gasser to have it. ALL 6.7 CTD's have it. Which transmission, or whether or not it's Cab and chassis has nothing to do with it. It's turned on using the cruise control buttons.

A gasser with a PTO would have it- or at least it should.

All 4500 and 5500 are cab and chassis trucks.

Power Wagon's have a single chassis battery. If you do a full length pull with the winch you can easily kill the battery. A high idle option is greatly needed for the platform.

I tried it on my 14 2500 6.4 mega and no luck..:( . I imagine on the 6.4 it is a P.T.O system... where as with the cumin’s it may just be a high idle feature?
