how diff is my hemi.

my mom has a 2010 challenger r/t classic. 6 spd. she does not have mds.

i have mds. her hemi needs 5w30, mine is 5w20 for the mds. but y does her engine requre premium and mine only mid grade? other than mds. arent they the same engine?

Her challenger can run 87 or 89 89 is prefered for performance, read the manual that came with it. Its in black and white.

I was wondering the same too......the dealer gave me a ride in a brand new RT 5.7 Chally last night and its amazing but he said the two motors are the same blocks and such but cams, manifolds, fuel injectors, computer/tune...all different from the 5.7 in my new '12 Ram.

That RT is amazing....LOL

The manual for the Ram says 89 is "preferred".

I always went by what the engine wanted....if the engine pings , move up a notch. higher octane never meant better performance, just resistance to ping/knock.

Is that not the case anymore?

It all in the tune on the computer on the different grades of gas. Plus the intake and exhaust manifolds are different. Im sure there's some internal differences too.

Allpar says 09-10 manual 87 min, 91(probably 93 in other areas) preferred. 09-10 auto 87 min, 89 preferred. Probably has to do with no mds and a higher power tune

I am sure a large difference (as it has always been since they brought back the Hemi) is tuning and where they try to get hp and torque to be in regards to RPM needed to hit sweet spot etc.

i think its just the sports car gimmick they say is fast so they want you to put better gas and oil that wont break down quit as fast i guess if you on the gas all the time lol
