Post the vin # and I can get the build sheet for you. I can't find a way to post a link to the site from my phone.

Tow Guide, simplifies stuff. Axle ratio and cab size rule the roast, assuming same engine.

MSRP was only 29, how much they asking? Can't see gear ratio.

Somewhere between 8k and 10k, if you have 3.92's 10k pounds., if you have 3.21's or 3.55's basically 8k pounds.

So the 3.21 with the 6 speed is the dog when it comes to towing. it was more for gas mileage, I would find a 3.92 or nothing. You could always do a gear swap, but I do believe that isn't simple switch, you have to do some shaving or some ****. 8k pounds is the max, but more then that you are in the wrong rpm's when towing, that is what the 3.92's do, you will be in high rpm's and can control the weight much better. If I was towing any trailer of substance, I would want at least 3.92's. If you do get that, you could get a tuner and change the shift points, and tune the mds garbage out.

I would need it to pull a 3900lb (dry weight) travel trailer, 2-10 times a year for 155km (95 miles) max.

Could it safely do that? I can't afford much else unfortunately. But I don't want to destroy the truck. Or drive if it's unsafe.

I'm new to trucks. If it can't really handle it how come it's rated to pull 7,000lbs+?

Thanks for all the help

4000 pounds it will pull no problem, especially so infrequently and such a short distance. With 3.21 gears my only concern would be climbing elevation. Just keep an eye on transmission temp.
Also, if you do have the 6 speed, just be careful and manually downshift at highway speeds to pass or if you need to get into a higher rpm range. Apparently the 6 speeds like to wear themselves out prematurely.

4000 pounds, it won't even work at it.
Buy the truck with confidence.
Every one on this forum will insist you have a million horse power and 4.88 gearing.

I have 2014 RAM crew cab, 4x4 8 spd with 3.21 gears. I just got back from 2200 mile FL trip pulling about 4600# with a 520# tongue weight. I pulled at 65 through the hills in KY and TN without a problem. The 3.21 rear end coupled with the 8 spd tranny is ideal for that size trailer in my opinion. My truck has a stock tow/haul mode that works well when pulling. When not towing I can easily get anywhere from 19 to 20+ MPG. Towing I averaged about 8.0 MPG in the mountainus interstates and about 9.4 when it flattened out, rarely exceding 65MPH.

Hope this helps...

3900 lb dry is probably in the 5k range, loaded, ready to camp weight. Still should be no problem for that truck. More importantly, what is the max payload on the yellow door jamb sticker?

Ideally, you want 12% tongue weight, so at 5k that's 600 lbs, plus the weight of the hitch itself. Plus the weight of all passengers and cargo in the truck.

With a camper of that weight I'd imagine you'll be ok, but it's worth knowing the weights to be sure. Good luck
