Tried to warm up my truck today before heading out but the remote start wouldn't work. Message on the dash says it was aborted due to "Hood Ajar." Did everything I could to get it "closed" but nothing seems to work. Is there some sort of sensor I can fiddle with to get it to read correctly?

negative, the hood sensor is mounted to the right of the hood latch and its just a black button that sticks up when the hood is opened. i had to move mine for my lights and zip tie the button down and tape it so i could still use my starter. just unplugging it disables the remote start.

under the sensor it has a wire plug, check that plug and see if its loose.

The sensor is important too because imagine it getting started during and oil change or other repair.

Do you have the OEM remote start? The OEM remote start has the hood switch integrated in the hood latch.

The red arrow points to the switch and there should be a plug that goes in to it.

why did you have to move it for your lights?

I have the newer hood ajar switch on the side of the hood latch as pictured above. (2010) My remote start will not work. I have tried unplugging the harness, and get the same message. I have also tried 'jumping' the two pins on the unplugged harness, and I still get the hood ajar message!! Is there something I am missing? Does it KNOW that it is unhooked? Also - where else can I look if this is not the problem, thanks in advance.

I did check on getting a new switch. It comes as an entire hood latch assembly, and it is around $65. I didnt want to go that route and find out the problem is somewhere else, help!!

Hi. Just purchased a 2012 3500, and my first Ram. I have the remote start fob and am getting the proper light flashes and door locks but then get the hood open problem. Main issue is that I do not see a wire and plug that connects to the hood latch connector, which is installed on the truck. Where would the wire/connector that goes to the hood latch be routed from?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Its the hood latch that needs to be replaced. You can find it for about 40 bucks online and its 4 bolts to replace it.

The latch has a mechanical sensor that cant be electronically bypassed. They all seem to rust over.

If you need help or a video to replace it PM me.

Only thing you have to do is trace around the current one w a sharpie or marker and line the new one up in the same place.
