According to Ram engineers Tow/Haul will not lock out MDS, it is still active. Only using the ERS will disengage MDS.

I notice on my 8spd that it will downshift and engine brake as well.

I noticed after the last tranny update mine does this in normal operation too, but not as much or pronounced. Anyone else notice that? Never searched on it, put it in the "under warranty do not care" file...

I use my TH every time I drive, it is second nature at this point to press the button upon startup. Now going on year 7 of using tow haul everyday, I'm guessing it is ok to use. In my 2010, tow haul disengages MDS.

Damm...beat me to it.

That's the first thing I do upon start up.

Zero issues.

............and what is the purpose of doing this? Just curious. I only use tow/haul when I'm towing my travel trailer.

It changes your tranny gearing to stay in higher rpm's, eliminates bogging and shudder from having the gear in low rpm's. Better control, better power, no reason why not to use it. The question you should ask yourself is what the **** is up with the stock shift points, and why it it every ******* manufacturer has them, they suck ass. Now, Ford has a ten speed and Ram has an 8 speed, all in an effort to eliminate bogging and shudder. But, why not just change the shift points? Maybe, they can't, just maybe the EPA wants them to have engines running in low rpm for CAFE standards.

Exactly.

My ram drives so much better with tow/haul on especially with the 37's....I can tell immediately when I've forgotten to engage it because the whole drive-feel sucks ass.

I bet the stock setups are really peppy while using it.

Agree with others on my 2011 5 speed. I've been switching back and forth days at a time and TH makes a big difference for the good. Plus it sounds mean as hell coasting down hill.

My MPG actually goes up when driving with it enabled. I don't have a ton of elevation change in daily commute but without it on it shifts quite a bit more.

I do believe they have them upshifting so fast for fuel mileage, keeping rpms down is better for this.
My wifes Mustang is annoying with how soon it upshifts as was my 07 Cummins. I had the trans in my Cummins tuned and it made a world of difference in how that truck drove.

So I beg the question... Can a programmer auto start the truck in TH mode?

I know not the same sport but... I used to start my GTO in TC off mode, TC ****** me off when I know how to drive my car.

You can custom make your shift points even better then TH if you have a programmer, shut off MDS as well.

i don't have any performance mods as of yet,so pushing the little button will have to do me,for now.i don't see the cost benefit in a tuner.

Looks like most here that use the TH all the time don't have the 8 speed. I don't use it except for towing.
