i currently have a 2/4 setup and with the new lower profile tires it seems that another inch front and back would be better visually. Questions are:

I just need to cut a coil at each corner right?

How do you measure a coil? (a complete circle?)

Are there any further precations to take after cutting the springs?

Thanks

Chris

I would suggest you plan on doing this is smaller steps, a few times and going slow not full coils. You can't put back what you cut off.

I don't have my numbers handy from my 08 Front but I did 1/4 circle (~4-5 inches in length) and it was probably close to 1" drop.

Hopefully someone with 4th Gen might have some experience with these coils can chime in.

When I cut the coils on my '98 Ram, I did it 1/4 coil at a time.
(I was already running a 3" drop coil. Wanted like 3.5")

Just look in this 4th gen lowering section. There's like 4-5 threads on cutting springs with before and after pics.

Thanks for the link. The problem is most of the links I have found are cutting stock springs. I would think less would need to be cut on lowering springs.

Here's what I would do. The variable spring rate is different with drop springs vs. the stock springs. So, if you want to cut a little off the lowering springs to achieve another 1" drop, I would start with 1/4 of the coil. Imagine the coil as a complete circle, cut off 1/4 of that circle. By doing it this way, you don't risk going "all in" at once and can fine tune it as you go. If the 1/4 off doesn't give you what you are looking for, you can always take off a little more. But, once they are cut, there is no putting the coil back to the previous "uncut state." There is no definite amount to tell you to chop off. It will be trial and error.... Hope that helps a little... (I've cut all 4 of mine)

Well I made the cuts today. Only the rears, did 1/2 coil at a time and ended up removing 1 full coil from each side. The overall result was 1 inch front and rear but left enough for settling.
