Rambox rack design

After a year of searching for a decent rack for my 2013 RAM 1500 with Rambox, I decided to design my own. Seems like no one is manufacturing a heavy duty rack for Rambox, AEV conversions has a nice concept design but still no product on the market. Thule X-Sporter doesn't fit.


So here are some detailed pictures from my custom bed rack for the 2013 RAM 1500 with Rambox. The idea is to be as modular as possible, and mount RotoPax accessories, tools, HiLift etc.
The top supports a Tepui Kukenam Sky rooftent, the center of the rack has two removable horizontal tubes with ABS pipe cover to hold a 10' Lowe 1040 Jon boat.
The tonneau cover can be accessed, locked or completely removed for modularity.
The additional roof rack stops just before the sunroof, and supports quite a bit of weight (tested with 250lbs dynamic load, but likely higher).
Used around 70ft of steel tubing, roughly 220lbs in weight (4 guys lifted it onto truck), powdercoated.
I hope the images explain some other details. Please feel free to ask for other details or questions. I figured the biggest issue with Rambox roofrack / bedrack / truckrack is attachment points, I'm happy to clarify further if needed. It's been a fun challenge, and the result is spot on. Works as I hoped for, with no compromise in the use and access to Rambox or tonneau. Welding was done with Line-X coat in mind (more beefy, less sexy welds that would disappear under the Line-X coat). Price for that coating was too high, so I went with zinc primer and powdercoat.

Either way, this has been a fun project with the amazing help of Sportsman 4x4 Light Truck & Offroad in Kamloops, BC.

I believe so, yes.

Very nice!!! Great design. What plasma system did you use! I work for Hypertherm, just curious. You put a lot of thought into the design.

Thanks! The design was based around somewhat elegant esthetics that follows the existing truck design lines and adapts to modular outdoor requirements without making the truck look like a beast. We were using a Hypertherm power max 45 plasma cutter

Looks good. I designed a bed rack for a member on here, but never saw the finished product. I like the versatility of yours. Much more thought than what my guy wanted.

Sorry, I double-checked: tubing is 1.75" with .120" wall

I have been looking for 3 months now for a high capacity rack and I realized what you realized in the past that there are slim to none fabricators that have stuff for rams. I saw 2 designs but the other one needs my tonneau cover to come off and I love the idea of keeping it. The other one is priced at 2300 for a base model. Looked online and I saw your design. It looks great and I love it. How much did you pay for fabrication if you don’t mind me asking? And would you be ok if I copy it? I’ll have to twik the Bottom post since my 2015 Ram 1500 does not have a Ram box.
