running boards are making a ticking noise as I'm riding down the road, it took me like a week to figure out what it was, the bolts aren't loose but the board rattles and shakes real easy, what should i do?

OEM boards? Then sounds like the OEM pem nuts are breaking loose. Or there is just junk inside rataling around.

they are oval nerf bars and the caps are on so i don't believe that there is anything in there. you can hear the rattle clear as day in the cab

I have the same issue with my 2012. When I first heard it I tightened the bolts as much as I felt I could without breaking the metal. Helped for a few months. Noise started again checked the bolts and they are tight as hell. But I can move the running boards and still hear the squeek. There seems to be some kind of padding at the top of the running boards on mine on the body of the truck maybe that has worn out. I'm tempted to wedge some wood in there so that it says tight and doesn't rattle. I think dodge just has a poor design when it comes to running boards. I found another post from 2010 with the same issue.

Current mileage is 65K on my vehicle.

I bought a 2009 with OEM boards that drove me insane with the rattling. I bought a set of Aries for < $200 that bolt to the frame and have been much happier so far.
