im running 33" offroad tires with stock 3.55 gears. it seems to be fine but i will eventually next year run a 35" tire and occasionally tow a 5000lb camper. i was thinking to go with a set of 4.10 gears. i know something about machining the carrier for the 4.56 gears but is this a direct swap...

I thought there weren't any gears swaps available for the 2013?

2013 2WD trucks use the same axle as the 2011 & 2012s so you can do a straight swap for OEM 4.10s or you can have a LSD carrier machined to fit pre 2011 Corporate 9-1/4" rear gears.

The only gears available for a straight swap into the 2012 & 2013 4x4s are the OEMs, so you're limited to 3.92s. You would have to swap in a whole front axle assembly from a 2009 or 2010 to do 4.10s or 4.56s.

They provide a better power ratio. 4.10:1 means 4 turns of the pinion results in 1 turn of the ring. The higher the number the more torque applied to the wheels by the drive-shaft. This can be used to counter the force losses incurred by getting a larger tire.

You'll also need to get new axle seals for your specific model year since they will most likely get damaged in the process and the older style doesn't fit the ZF axle. They are cheap and can be bought at the dealer, just make your sure you tell them your VIN so they get the right part (most will ask for it anyway).

they are just a click away
Not for him it's not. He would have to swap in a whole front axle assembly from a 2009 or 2010 to do 4.10s or 4.56s.

What weight of gear oil does this take. My installer is suggesting 85/140 I think. Is that ok or should I stick with oem

Glad they made it. You are going to be very happy with the new power down low.

I've always kept this in mind.... Always skip the very next available gears ratio when swapping them or its not really noticeable. Like a ranger I had came with 4.10 stock and I put 33s on it. I could have installed 4.56 but I went with 4.88s. Same in my 85 4x4 Chevy. I went from a 31" tire and 3.73 to 38s and 5.13s.

This is true, if your already at it, going up one ratio is a waste of time. I went from a 3.55 in my Dakota up to a 4.56, 3 ratios, and I was running 33's and it was the best thing I did to that truck. Matter of fact, I would have loved 4.88's but couldn't get then for my front diff

well gears were installed today. so far i can tell a difference in acceleration. it comes alive around 4500 or so on to shift point. it will spin them pretty good from a dead stop. i reset the mpg thingy to see if there is a change. i think i did well. i do wish there was like a 4.30 gear i would have gone that route.
