This morning I noticed that my check engine light came on, when I got it scanned the following 3 codes pulled up. Other than these codes the truck is driving alright. Earlier today I did notice that it was having trouble getting over 2000RPM. Also the check engine light came on about 6 weeks ago but automatically shut off within 48 hours.

P0014 - "B" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1)

P0016 - Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor A)

P000B - “B” Camshaft Position Slow Response

Trying to understand these codes are like a foreign language to me so I am hoping you can help with a few questions.

1.A few months ago the truck was in an accident where the front end had to be rebuilt. They had to cut out the frame and side extensions and soldier in new ones. Also they had to replace the radiator. Other than the radiator, I was told the damage was mostly 'cosmetic' and not mechanical. Is there a chance this has to do with the accident?

2. Can I keep on driving it for a few days before taking it to the shop or should I avoid driving it and take it to the shop ASAP? Last thing I want is to cause more damage!

3. Any ideas what can be causing the failures and how much the repairs is going run me?

Thanks for the help!!

Camshaft Position sensor is a pretty common code, usually can be fixed just by replacing sensor, but with all that history I would proceed with caution. It could be related, but proving it is another thing.

Your camshaft position sensor probably got whacked by the accident but survived.

You can drive with it as is but watch the CEL. If it starts blinking, stop and seek a repair facility.

The sensor isn't that hard to change and is not expensive to purchase. I'd just replace it, disconnect the battery to clear the codes and drive on.

Hi dstone84,

If you decide to visit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to follow up with them for you. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know!

Just heard back from the shop... It is the timing chain assembly. He also rambled something about the camshaft and I believe a gear. I was driving so I couldn't write anything down and he was talking way above my knowledge. Total price was about $1,250. Not good news at all. I am not in the industry but that seems way high, what do you all think?

He said that there is a slight chance that it was caused by the accident but he can not be certain either way. He said it is possible that the timing could of 'slipped' at the time of the accident.

While, I have used the shop (its the dodge dealership) in the past and for the most part trust them, I think I am going go take it to another shop tomorrow to get a second opinion.

PS: It is a 2010 Hemi with about 77,000 miles on it. Seems a little bit early to be having these problems. Specially since I always follow the recommended service guide.
