Hi folks,

New to the forum and have found some very useful information so far. I recently bought a 2009 1500 crew cab short box with a hemi 5.7l engine. The engine I noticed is quite dusty when you lift the hood and I was wondering can it be cleaned and if so who has done it and what have you used to clean it with. This is my new toy and I do not want to do any damage to it.

Thanks for any help and guidance.

Sean

Like the liquid detergent or the powder?

Budakane gave me some advice to use simple green. Depending on how dirty it is it might need a few spray and rinses

Liguid...I have also used the Simple Green, it works well too...when I used Simple Green I would dillute it by half, unless I was cleaning a really greasy area. Spray it on, let it sit, then use a brush on stubborn areas.

Make sure you keep your fuse box, alternator and stuff like that dry, buy wrapping it in aluminum foil or plastic.

Cover the windshield and wiper cowl with some old towels or a tarp. Cover electrical and anything you dont want wet with aluminum foil. The foil will form to the part, and hold on during cleaning. Spray the engine down with a quick rinse. Spray the hell out of the engine bay with your favorite degreaser. I use Purple Power. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes then hit it with the pressure washer. I then use my compressor and a blow off gun to dry it and get out most of the water. Then I start it up and warm the engine up to burn off the excess.

I have always used Simple Green. Spray it over everything but the alternator and your air filter. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes and then rinse it all off. I then take a rag to dry up any puddles of water left on the engine. Then start it up and let it run for a few minutes to dry. From here, I spray over the entire engine bay with tire foam. Let sit for a minute, and then wipe off the excess. Your engine will look new when done.

Thanks guys very informative. Being new here do you cover only the alternator and air filter? Do you have any pics of how you do it?

That is an XV intake, and Sharadon Performance built the Intake Elbow between the manifold and the throttle body. That manifold is designed for high rpms though, so without a big cam, and very high stall converter, and some serious tuning, it isnt going to show much of a gain.
