I put on the 87mm TB from Moe's yesterday and when I tightening the bolts to the TB I realized one of the holes was stripped. It wasn't something I did overtightening because this was the first time I've taken the bolts out, and the others snugged easily, unlike this one. I thought getting a longer bolt would solve the problem but I've been to two hardware stores and one auto parts store and none could help me with the length and thread I needed. Anyone have this happen and any solutions?

Maybe use one that is a little longer with some small washers for spacers? The alternatives aren't pleasant.

The problem is no one seems to have the thread type that the stock bolt has, or they just don't know what they're doing. I don't want to get a bolt that is too aggressive and make things worse. I'm going to say it was like this from when I bought the truck and it seemed like the hole was already stripped, I may try and see what the dealer says, although I can't assume they'll do much for me.

worst case senario is you have to drill it out and put a helicoil in. Basically new threads but the size you need might be hard to find too.

You may also try contacting 1 of the manufacturers that makes throttle body spacers. When using a spacer, they include longer bolts, so maybe they can mail you 1 of those longer bolts that they would normally include with the spacers.

Is there not a "bolt supply" store near you?
We have 1 near my work that I have been able to take every weird length/size/thread bolt and nut from my Nissan to and they sold me and sometimes gave me a replacement. The cost is often a nickel.
Just take your factory bolt (not like its doing much) with you and explain your problem.

seems like the best solution so far, helicoil as last resort

If the 4th gens are like the 3G intakes they are plastic. If its stripped you don't need a longer bolt you need a thicker bolt. It will retread its self with a little pressure. Good luck

Fastenal was one of the places I went. I may just have to get a bigger bolt and rethread.

use Form-A-Thread Stripped Thread Repair Kit by Loctite or Water Weld by J-B Weld.

Same exact thing happened with me two weeks ago, i replaced the fourth bolt with longer one with washers but its still not even 30% grabbing

This sucks to hear!! I wonder how many others have had this issue. Let us know how you repair it. That would be awesome information to share with other members.

Well to be honest am not trying to think of it as long as the truck is running with no issue coz i dont want to make more damage ,when i took out that bolt i noticed plastic around it and when called the dealer in my country he said that i have to change the intake :shakehead: , on my 06 hemi i took the TB out more than 50 times and am still doing it with no issues but on the 2010 from the first time this happened ...icon9.gif

Thanks man, I'll give them a shot today, Fastenal shot me down pretty quickly after seeing the bolt and thread type.

use Form-A-Thread Stripped Thread Repair Kit by Loctite or Water Weld by J-B Weld.

I was hoping to find a solution that doesn't involve pouring stuff right next to an opening to the engine but if it comes to that I may have no choice

At least I haven't noticed a decrease in power (actually the opposite) the whistling is just weird/annoying. I'll keep you guys updated.

Get a slightly bigger bolt. Not longer. I promise you it will work. The larger bolt will re thread it's self into the plastic. Just don't over tighten it.

I actually did just that. Its slightly longer but not by much. It threaded and tightened. I still get a whistle but I think that's normal now. I sprayed carb cleaner around the TB and the idle didn't change which I assume it would have otherwise. I may have a small leak around the hose. But I can deal with that.

on the move..
