Thoughts guys? I was coming home from work this evening and wanted to use the manual mode but it wouldn't work. The trans temp was not registering on the dash as it was below 104 degrees

Is this a fail safe and supposed to happen

Your trans temp doesn't register below 104 degrees? My engine oil won't, but tranny definitely runs a lot under 104.

Wow. My tranny runs cooler than 104 a lot of the time. I think if the truck isn't warmed up some tranny features are limited, like TC lockup, and gears get held a little longer. Not sure about locking out manual mode.

I usually see 150 on my trans temp after I've been driving a while

I don't think my 14 tranny runs that warm without towing. around 120, I think. It definitely reads like 40 when I get in and I can watch it warm up.

My engine oil reads 104 minimum and won't register anything until it gets past that.

yeah my truck reads <104 until it reaches 104 then it registers on the graph. I usually see after driving around town and whatnot for a while 130 to 145.

It was crazy cold here and its getting worse i just don't want to think about something being broken. i hope the manual mode is just unavailable due to trans temp not being above 104

Actually paid attention this morning driving to work in snow with 4WD engaged. Tranny stayed around 110 once warmed up.

Yes. Manual mode works immediately when truck is cold. It will hold gears a little longer until it warms up, but does let me go into manual.

Well after driving more then the 10 minute commute home I was able to get the transmission above 110 degrees and the manual mode works like normal

That tranny has to be different than the one in my 14. Do you have an owners manual for it?

Perfect. LOL. I'm surprised other 09 owners haven't chimed in on this thread.

I looked at your owners manual online and saw this note. I wonder if this means you can't manually control it until it warms up:

NOTE: If the vehicle is started in extremely cold temperatures,
the transmission may not shift into Overdrive
and will automatically select the most desirable gear for
operation at this temperature. Normal operation will
resume when the transmission fluid temperature has
risen to a suitable level.

Yeah. The later model tranny's may just function better at lower temps. I know there is some new tranny warmer feature that uses engine coolant to warm the tranny up faster.
