ok so i had my truck lifted for 7 weeks now and never heard this issue. i just got my brakes done today rotors and pads all around. the mechanic took it for a test drive after doing the brakes and told me he heard a popping noise coming from the front. he insisted it was not the brakes they just installed. i was like i dunno i know my truck very well and never heard this noise... so i drive it home about 10 miles and it did it twice driving str8 braking pretty hard. i looked undeathe everything was tight nothing weird but i immeidialty saw oil leaking from the right side cv axle where it goes into the pumpkin. these are the stock units at 66k. could these be cause this thunk/pop? i imedialty called mechanic and told him it didnt do this before hand at all and now it does.? he said bring it back tommorw and hell take a look whats going on. it def feel like its coming from the drivers side.. ugg!!!!! this is in 2wd. i didnt even wanna pop it in 4wd. when i turn the knob to 4hi i hear it do its click to engage. i never use 4wd actaully..

That sucks. When changing brakes he shouldn't have to touch the cv axle at all. Does it randomly happen under normal driving conditions or when hitting bumps or turning maybe?

Damn man. The cv axles should move in and out but not too much. I hope its not something in the diff. Maybe when they put it up in the air on the lift they messed up and got the front part of the lift that goes on the frame on the axle and messed that seal up or the cv axle. Wild guess.

ok i drove it again and it seems to be getting more noticeable and changing noises. when i brake hard itll pop. but not every time. when i start rolling from a stop i get a creaking grinding kind of noise. i get the same creaking grinding noise when im turning in parking lots tight too. its not very loud but something obvioslu wrong. and like i said oil was coming out of the one side of the cv

If it wasn't for the oil leak i would lean towards the brakes. Maybe the retaining clips were improperly installed or the pads weren't installed correctly. I would definitely go back and make them recheck their work.

UPDATE:

ok so i dropped truck off today for the brake guys to look at the noises. they were really firm in belief it wasnt the brake job they just did. i leave and get a call back within 20 mins. they said again that it was the suspension bolts were loose from the lift kit causing the noise. i was kinda mad because i just had the bolts retorqued 2 weeks ago. i asked them can u at least tighten them and see if it is indeed the issue. i go back and he pointed directly to the main 2 bolts holding the bds traction bars to the frame, saying these were loose. now after the brake job i heard noises turning in the front too, so i wasnt convinced these bolts were the issue. i took it home and braked hard and bobed and weaved the lines in the road to look for noises. not a single noise. so im hoping and praying this was really the issue for all the noises..... i guess a blessin in dequise would show that since i disocvered a leaking cv axle i should get the seal replaced soon... but im thankful its not the axles.... can those bolts just get loosin up from putting it on a lift and letting all the components dead hang or something?
