Has anybody ever rebuilt their 9.25" rear end? Mine makes a weird sound at highway speeds while cruising and accelerating. I was going to buy a master rebuild kit with all the bearings, races and everything, but I don't know how easy it would be or how long it would take. The other option would be to buy the kit and take it to a shop to have them install it. But that also worries me. Please help.

i would say that if you dont have experience with these rear ends, let a shop do it. from what i hear, they are very difficult to work on and get right. any reputable rear end shop can get the rebuild kit for you. and while you have it open, though about swapping gears out yet?

Already have 4.56 Yukon gears in there. But I don't thing the pinion was done right, that's what I think is making the noise.

aw man that sucks! I'm sure you could figure out how to do it yourself... but i think you'd have better peace of mind letting a shop do it lol

Well I'm a very DIY kind of guy, so I would love to do it myself. The thing is is that not many people have done it themselves, so it is hard to come by pictures of the rebuild. I know a guy that will loan me his lift, and if I could just find pictures or like a video, then I'd be set to do it myself. But sadly I can't so I might just have to take it somewhere.

i was in the same boat as you. i do everything on my own. all installs, tore transmission apart, etc. but i couldnt find enough resources to get enough confidence to do it on my own.

Yep, Same here, Apart from a Pinion Seal change and Fluids, pulling Axles for outboard seals, I paid the $$ for an expert to do my Gears and LSD. The Dodge rear-ends take time, special tools and proper procedures with alot of checks along the way and like John said limited full explanation out there for the DIY Guys.

So today I talked to my friend Charles (who has a twin turbo 24valve 2nd gen). His dad owns a tranny shop near my house and he said that they will rebuild the rear end for I can't remember how much. Good to know I have good friends lol.
