Hey all, I have a 2002 ram quad cab 4.7 5spd. Its currently lifted with 3in coils and 3in spindles up front and 2in blocks out back rolling on 35x12.5R17 pro comps. Im looking to lower it tho since I want to make it my weekend warrior at the local drag strip. Iv already ordered stock coils and shocks for the front and Iv decided on this kit that will replace my lift spindles up front and il pull my blocks and do the shackles out back.

McGaughys 2 Front Spindle 4 Rear Drop Kit 02-05 Dodge Ram 1500 McGaughy's 2 Front Spindle 4 Rear Drop Kit 02-05 Dodge Ram 1500, McGaughy's 94002 Drop Kit [McGaughy's 94002 Drop Kit] - $595.95 : 3rd Strike Performance!!, Mopar, GM and Ford Performance

the question i have is what tire size should I look at for my truck. I was thinking a 285/75r17(thats what i had on it when it was stock height) But id love some input from you guys my wheels are Ultra wheel Nomads they are 17x9 with 5.39 bs and +10 offset. also Im gonna need new rear shocks after the drop any recommendations?

Just for the fun of it heres how it sits right now

looks good man, would leave it as is but would be cool to have a fast truck, anyways what wheels are you wanting to run? a 285/75 is pretty big on a lowered truck but it may still fit, my trucks similar to urs im running the 7'' cst lift right now

that kit is what I was basing my lift off of tho i pieced together my kit from different manufactures. I just hate the ball joint angle on it and I wanna make a fast truck that i can put in some of my local car shows. we are all friends who go to the track and race on the weekends then met up for a show and shine the next morning. main thing is the truck is paid off vs buying a car or another truck to make a fast truck. I really like not having a car payment

My wheels are 17x9 with 5.39 bs and +10 offset like i said i ran that tire size when i got the truck at stock height with these wheels but idk how it'll do with a 2/4 drop. Really the smaller the tire the better for gear ratio but I still want it to fill the fenders up and not look dumb. maybe a 265.

did you have to replace balljoints or any suspension parts on urs? my angles arnt bad the cst kit seems to be pretty good i am hoping that i dont run into issues, but anyways i would definantly go 265 or maybe 275 i cant remember what size the stock tire size is i think its a 265. what gear ratio do you have?

Gearing and tire size are huge in drag racing. What gears do you have?
Thats a pretty tall tire for racing to, you'll still be close to 33"

It still has the stock 3.55s in it. I plan on going to a 4.10/4.56 when money allows. Probably tax refund time. I want to retain drive ability as it probably will be driven most of the time. By no means am i building a true drag truck but Just something to play around with. My buddies LS1 swapped S10 putting down low 12s is gonna beat me no matter what haha the track time is just for fun and bragging rights. Everybody and their mother's civic show up to run

Welcome to RF.

As far as tire size, I would stick with 17s, just not sure on the tire size itself.

As far as shocks, I will swear by the Belltech Street Performance, NOT the Nitro Drop IIs. But if you're goin to race it, they have adjustable drag shocks too.

^^^^ what they said but you will also need to cut out the front bump stops and replace and unbolt the rears bumpstops and replace them. the shocks will make a big difference on the ride. yeah the 4.56s is a must you do it you will kick yourself in the butt for not doing it sooner...

oh by the way how do you like the sct tune with your 4.7 stick do you have the "can" tune or the stage 1 prob. going to be getting the sct very soon and just wondering how it going to change the feel of the truck
