So, we are on day 3 of our 2 week vacation.. 30C+ heat.. And my A/C decided to stop blowing cold. The compressor isn't engaging, wondering if there's anything I may be able to fix, or what the sting at the shop might be.

First check your fuses and move the relay around to rule out electric. Sounds like you got a leak. Go to a shop, ask them to take a look at it, and watch them when they run the refrigerant detector. See where the thing beeps the most. Make sure they are not shaking it for you can get a false reading like that. Or go to the parts store and get the a/c pro crap and recharge the system, but it will not last that long if it is a big piece of the system.

So the compressor won't run if the refridgerant leaked out?

Most vehicles have low and high pressure switches in the AC system than will disable the compressor if the pressure is out of range

So, after a stop for lunch, it seems to be blowing cold air again. Anything to worry about?

Again. Check the clutch on the compressor. Make sure it is engaging.

I'll check those and see where that leads me. The clutch is audibly engaging, and seems to be back to typical operation.

So, it was a short lived reprieve from the heat. It stopped working while in traffic in Calgary.

Are the fuses in the fusebox under the hood, or hiding elseware? Anyone have the #s for me?

I doubt its a fuse might be but doubt it. look at the condser and the condensor fan motor. it the condensor is blocked or really dirty or the fan is not working it wont beable to reject the heat and will go off on high head pressure.

Can you help me find that? I've got a heavy equipment tech helping me, but light trucks aren't his game.

Move your steering column up and down. I had this issue with my a/c, it was the ignition switch. Try moving the column up and down to see if that changed anything.
Its worth a shot

Isn't there a resistor mounted on the bottom side of the dash on the passenger side?

The only one I know of is the fan speed controller, which I did have an issue with and replaced the resistor pack about 4 months ago. Is there another one???

Or is there an AC function in that component that could be causing this??

Went to an Hvac shop today.. Pressure is good. Clutch is bad.

No clutches avail. Pump is 300 + 400 labour for install. Trying to get a relative to help with install.
